Chapter 10: Give Up Already

[The next day]

It was the weekend. But WE4 were required to come to college because they had to do a final practice for the music performance tomorrow.

Jackie was waiting in the practice room for 2 hours, but no one came. She was worried to death. Jessica and Stella's phones appeared to be switched off. Alice picked the call and said she wouldn't be able to join today due to fever and headache.

Jackie called Jessica and Stella again, but their phones were still not reachable. She started to panic internally, then she heard the sound shoes walking into the practice room.

"Wow! You are really hard working," She heard a hissing voice from behind her, "I told you I was a fan of yours."

Jackie looked back and saw Francis.

"What have you done to my friends?" She roared.

"Don't worry, I still haven't killed them or something," Francis chuckled, "I just told them that you've been a bad friend. I said that you met me last night and threatened me to decline your friends' proposals. What a selfish friend you are!"

He started laughing hysterically.

"And they believed me!" He said while laughing, "The friends you have trusted all your life have put their trust on me instead of you. How pathetic!"

"You are a good actor, Mr. Francis Hopes," Jackie smiled teasingly, "Only if your music was as good as your acting skills!"

"What do you mean?" Francis reacted out in anger.

"If you had practiced instead of wasting your time running after a group of freshmen, at least your time wouldn't have been wasted," Jacky replied.

"Yeah, right," Francis said, "I pretended to be college student, ran after your stupid friends and finally they stepped into my well-built trap. How can I let this all go in vein?"

"You have deceived all of my friends for stealing the stage," Jacky said, "You're such a coward!"

"Stealing??" Eddie laughed, "It's called winning! And your friends are such hot-headed fools, they fell into my trap so easily!"

"Don't utter another word about my friends!" Jackie shouted.

"Your friends!!" Eddie laughed out mockingly, "Only for the time being. They will no longer remain your friends after today."

"What will you do?" Jackie asked.

"I guess you already know what I can do," Francis said dramatically, "I'm world class actor! I can manipulate them well. Only you know that I'm a bloodthirsty beast. But to them, I'm a cute, playful, gentle and kind boy who each of them wants as her boyfriend."

"You mightn't be cute, playful or kind, but you INDEED are talkative," Jackie mocked.

"Whatever!" Francis rolled his eyes, "Now you wait and see how I break the unbreakable bond of WE4."

"Well, you can try," Jacky smirked, "But even God can't guarantee that you'd succeed."

Jacky avoided him and concentrated on preparing the musical performance again.

"Being so stubborn isn't good for health," Francis said in his very own annoying tone of voice, "Why don't you give up already? I own that stage, so you won't be able to perform anyway."

"You think so?" Jacky raised her eyebrow, "Then why did the national music community chose WE4 over 'THE GREAT' you?"

"That's right!" Francis clicked his fingers, "They chose WE4 as a whole. And WE4 as a 'WHOLE' won't exist after today. I've determined to break your unity."

"And it's my responsibility to stop you," Jacky said, "Duty vs. determination, let's see who wins."

That noon, after leaving the college, Jacky went to Alice's house. At first Alice was deceived by Francis's lie. But after hearing the truth of Francis Hopes, she was shook.

"So you're saying that the cute boy of yesterday is a moron pretending to cute to split us apart?" Alice said lying on her bed.

Jacky nodded, sitting on a couch next to her.

"What a jerk!" Alice tried to get up, "I'll just go teach him a lesson rightaway!"

"Don't get up," Jacky stopped her, "Don't forget you are sick. You should be resting."

"Then what should we do? Let that shithead break our teamwork?" Alice said out of anger, "He deserves a beating right now."

"Cool down your mind and help find better way if you can," Jackie said, "Fighting can never really solve our problems."

"Then call Jessica and Stella and tell them the real purpose of that moron," Alice said.

"Their phones are unreachable," Jackie said.

"Go to their houses then," Alice said, "I don't know how they will react, but try to convince them at least."

"I guess you're right," Jacky got up from the couch.

But her phone rang instantly. It was a call from an unknown number. She picked up hesitantly.

"Who is it?" She asked.

"It's just a fan of yours," A hissing voice said from the other side, "Are you planning to get your friends back?"

Jacky could recognize the voice, it was Francis's.

"Where did you get my number?" Jacky asked toughly.

"That's not something you should bother about," Francis said, "You should bother where I'm calling you from."

He laughed aloud, "By the way, our friend Stella's house is at XX road, right? And I've also heard that she lives alone..."

Jackie could hear the sound of calling bell of Stella's house from the other side of the phone.

"HOW DARE YOU?!" She roared in rage.

"I warned you not to mess with me," Eddie replied, "If you had GIVEN UP ALREADY, none of this was going to happen. Music is my obsession. And you can't even imagine what I can do for it."

"Don't you dare put your filthy hands on my friend," Jacky shouted.

Francis laughed out and the call was cut.

Jacky rushed out of Alice's place and hurried towards Stella's house. Anger was never her thing. And today perhaps for the first time in her life, she was losing it.
