You guys have been so kind! I'd like to thank you for requesting a Jean x female reader story!! It's never really specified in the story what gender reader is although I hope it still works. I really hope you enjoy!

You couldn't help but sigh as you stared at the sight in front of you. You just wanted to bring Jean a cup of coffee to help her through yet another long night of paperwork when you opened the door to see her slumped over her desk, asleep. She really did need to take better care of herself but if she didn't realize this yet, you supposed you could fill that role for now, it was practically your job at this point. Promotion seemed like a great chance to better support yourself as well as learn more about the interesting characters employed here but as you learned more about a certain acting grand master, you couldn't help but be overcome with worry about her state of being. You didn't understand it yourself but looking at her overworked and tired self made you feel terrible. After noticing hardly anyone at least trying to make things easier for her, you decided you could help from time to time by doing smaller tasks for her. This didn't go unnoticed by the other knights and you eventually had to take on much larger tasks for her but the workload on your own job seemed to lessen. When you asked if there was anything you could do about your decreasing tasks, you'd get a response akin to "don't trouble yourself, you need to assist the acting grand master." It was then you realized what you'd gotten yourself into although you started to enjoy working much more. Helping her and getting to see her soft smile as she thanked you made your heart feel light and gave you a spectacular feeling so it wasn't really all that bad.

Placing the cup and saucer to the side, you made your way to Jean's side and read over what she was writing. You weren't exactly the boss around here but Margaret's missing cat didn't seem too important at the moment and you hoped the honorary knight you'd heard so much about wouldn't mind helping you out for some mora. Your hands found they're way to her shoulders as you gently shook her awake.

"Jean?" You called out, softly. She seemed to wake up before you could finish the word but seemed rather frazzled. She took in her surroundings before turning to you.

"Y/N! Thank you for waking me up I didn't mean to fall asleep... I should get back to work." She then noticed the steaming cup placed on her desk and gave a strained smile. "You brought me coffee, how sweet. With this, I promise I won't fall asleep until I've finished this report."

"A report on a missing cat?" You questioned.

"Why of course." She said it firmly, but seemed to deflate a little as she carried on "I know it may not seem important to you, but it is to Margaret and as the Acting Grand Master, I must do all that is in my power to help the citizens of Mondstadt." She tried to smile once again, but she seemed to be too exhausted to give the full effect.

"Jean.." you started in a sympathetic tone, "you can't fix everything, you're only one person." She turned to you and you gazed into her eyes "Can't you see that you don't need to do everything yourself? Me and the other knights are paid to help you after all"

"But-"

"Please," You grabbed her hand and held it tightly in yours. "let me help you. Let me do something bigger than small tasks you that shouldn't even need to worry about in the first place. Please Jean," you softly cupped her cheek with your other hand and gave her a small smile "please let me take care of you." She stared at you. You stared at her. What you'd just said seemed to sink in, for the both of you. Jean continued to stare as you turned away to hide your blush. "I'm so sorry! I don't know what came over me I was just so worried about you I-"

"Okay"

It was quiet, but soft and accepting. An almost-whispered promise between you both. You could tell she meant it when you turned back around and met her gaze. Her eyes were shining and her smile wasn't strained, it was beautiful. You were suddenly grateful to your accidental slip-up as your embarrassingly intimate words seemed to have made her realize how worried you'd been.

"Okay." It felt like you two were the only people who existed in that moment, you probably were the only ones in the building who were awake. You felt like this couple of seconds, (perhaps minutes? You were too busy gawking at her to tell) were ones you'd treasure.

Soon enough, you found yourself dumping out a cup of cold coffee and guiding Jean to bed. She took out her ribbon and placed it on the bedside as she walked to her closet to change into her nightgown. Walking to the window in her quarters, you admired the city and almost missed it when she came back out. She sat on the bed and looked to you.

"Goodnight." You said quietly as you made your way past her however you were surprised when she grabbed your hand.

"Thank you, Y/N. Goodnight" she smiled. All you could do was smile back as you continued to the door. Looking back, you met her eyes.

"I promise to help much more from now on, as much as I can." With that, you closed the door behind you and took a deep breath. You really were going to do your best, it was her after all.
