It was cold again. Then again, when wasn't it cold. I'd lived in an old mansion for so long by my self, it was always freezing. Then I had a truly amazing idea. I, Luke Robert Hemmings, would create a fully functional human being. I was very good at science and I'd drawn up plans before. It was simple to grow the DNA, but making the first strand, not so much. Also, my creation would have no emotions or feelings. But at least I wouldn't be alone. The first stage was simple. All I had to do was find my old plans.
After hours of searching, I finally found it. I'd made it three years before when a friend of mine and I first had the idea. He would take three weeks to create but would be perfect. His hair would be a dirty blonde and his eyes a perfect hazel. He'd have a thickly coated Aussie accent and be fairly short compared to me. 6ft to be precise. Back then we thought it would be fun to make him dumb and stupid, but I've decided that he would have as much intellect as me. His highly developed brain and good looks would make him the perfect human. Except for one thing.
*Flashback (Third Person)*
No matter how alone Luke was, he always had Michael during school. Although Michael had many friends, he was always there for Luke. When Michael was seventeen and Luke was sixteen, they decided to create a fully functional being together. "Luke, would he not need emotions?" Michael asked when they'd finished.
"Not really. Sometimes emotions are the downfall of mankind. If we didn't fall in love or find sadness life would be so much easier. Prototype AI will be perfect." Luke replied while finishing his notes.
"Of course." Michael mocked. "I can't imagine life without feeling."
"It'll be easier for us and AI."
*end of flashback (Luke Hemming's view)*
The formula was simple. All I had to do was extract the slightest bit of another humans DNA so that the pattern could be understood and place in the variables of height, voice, eyes, hair and skin. His bones and muscles and brains would be based on mine. After all, I was the only human around. He, like me, would be twenty one with high intellectual knowledge. AI had stood for Alternative Intellect, but his name would be Ashton Irwin. Named after a family friend, Jacob Irwin. He was a kind old man, always there when no one else was. Except, of course, Michael. He was there all the time. To be honest, Michael was the only true friend I had. He helped me embrace being different. I was smarter than everyone else and that wasn't a problem. I could help people if I wanted to. But my bipolar didn't let me.
My emotions would change instantly at times. I'd be happy and then suddenly want to kill myself and many others around me. It was a huge problem at school. I was tormented for it by a guy called Calum Hood. He'd been a children's home most of his life and took it out on me. I always believed it was because I was different. Even though Michael and Calum were friends, Michael always stood up for me against him. Through every insult, every punch and every cut.
I guess I'm creating Ashton in memory of Michael. He was long gone. His parents were drunk and decided to take him out for a joy ride when he was eighteen. His death was something I choose to ignore. He always had dreams to give Prototype AI emotions. I wouldn't have it. And now he's becoming real. He'd say to me, "Luke, you'll fall in love with a girl who won't love you because of this." And I'd call him crazy. "Who'd resist a brain like mine?" It became a joke shortly after as I never had a girlfriend. Even when I'd openly come out as a homosexual, I still didn't find anyone. That's why I was so alone. And why I'm creating Ashton Irwin.
