Headmaster Rieson calls us into his office to give us our dorms, uniforms, and schedules. I'm sharing a room with Gwen and Zeldon is sharing a room with a boy whom the headmaster recommended, but I don't remember his name. We are escorted to the dorms by the headmaster who directs Gwen and I one way and Zeldon the other.
When the headmaster called us in, on our way there we had a little encounter with Gwen's family. It was kinda awkward for Zeldon and I, considering we didn't have any family that really wanted to talk to us. Gwen's mom was so worried, and it was a long goodbye for her. They are a lot alike. Her family seemed very nice and welcoming... well everyone besides her dad at least. He just stood there with a look of disappointment on his face. One of her brothers, Terren was his name I think, had the same look on his face. He didn't look that much younger than Gwen, so I'm guessing that he will be attending North Star next year. Thinking about this, I start down the hall towards the dorms.
When we enter the room, the first thing I notice is how bright and cheerful it looks. The windows are open and draped with golden cloth curtains. The beds have soft white sheets that look like freshly fallen snow while the comforter has the school crest etched onto the front of it. At the base of the bed were cushioned benches, and dressers beside the bed. Mine is purple and Gwens in light blue, no doubt to represent our elements.
"It's beautiful!" Gwen starts over to her bed where all of her stuff is already, I do the same. I stare at the uniform that was given to me, then try it on. It is more comfortable than I imagined, they probably designed it that way because we have to wear them everyday. Gwen tries her uniform on and then we head out to go find Zeldon. We arrive at his dorm and when he opens the door Zeldon has his uniform on too. He has a yellow vest and Gwen's uniform is light blue. He invites us inside and we talk for a while, then go back to our dorm. Every day was a little less lonely with Gwen and Zeldon. It's nice to have some real friends for a change, or any friends for that matter. They understand what I'm feeling because they are going through the same thing.

A few days passed and before I knew it, it was the day of the test. I study my uniform that the headmaster had designed for me. It had the normal white formal undershirt and gold knee length skirt, but the vest was purple with the crest sewn onto the top left of it.
Gwen had already put on her light blue vest. Not as light as the color for Gales, but not as dark as the color they use for Deltas. I quickly slip on the outfit then comb through my thick dark hair with my fingers. I am not a rough sleeper so my hair looks the same as it did before. I carefully snap in my hairpiece and put on some mascara. I want to look at least decent for this. After all, this is going to determine the rest of my life, so might as well look good.
Me and Gwen head out of the dorm to go find Zeldon before we go in for the test. The three of us have been close to inseparable since the calling ceremony. We find him getting breakfast in the cafeteria. He was sitting at a table with Nico, his new roommate. They are talking like they have known each other forever. The whole school is crowded because all of the students have come back to school for the test, and if they have a dorm room, they won't leave. They will stay here till school starts and then they can go home for Christmas. I probably won't go back for break, I never really felt comfortable in my own house.
Nico is in his uniform as well, but his vest was a super light blue, so his calling was Gale. I didn't recognize him from the village or from any Gale schools that I have previously gone to. He was most likely either homeschooled or a transfer from a different element, I could be wrong though I dismiss this fact immediately and Gwen and I go sit with them.
"Oh, Alye, Gwen, we were just finishing up! Uh I will see you after the test ok Nico?" Nico nods addressing his comment but doesn't respond with words, just looks at me, but when I make eye contact with him he looks away like nothing happened. Zeldon quickly gathers his meal and gestures away from the table. "Shall we ladies?" he says in a sarcastic tone. Gwen quickly takes the joke and straightened up and responds with,
