mi-rae p.o.v.

a slap across the cheek is the first thing that met my consciousness when entering the large and extravagantly modern penthouse. two orbs filled with distaste glowered into my own, which were unfaltering.

"you really thought you could get away with not obeying me?" kang hyo-rin said with gritted teeth.

my eyes wandered the floor. the air in the room felt mocking and i felt like the air could choke me. the people in the room were all kang hyo-rin's people, each and every one of them would not help me. ki-ha wasn't here, mother wasn't here, and father wasn't-

actually, if he was here, he wouldn't be much help either... no one could help me

"..."

"let me tell you something, mi-rae."

kang hyo-rin took a step closer to me and jerked my chin up so that i was staring directly up at her. the pupils of her eyes were an endless black void.

"i think you're smart enough to know that your mistake, so it would be best for you to do as your told."

immediately after saying those were, she forcefully pushed my chin down. i winced ready for another slap, but instead, she turned around started to walk away, giving orders in the process.

"we have dinner with the eun family tonight. make yourself presentable."

i blinked for a few seconds, processing her words and figuring out what to say in order to not anger her more.

"...i understand," i replied hesitantly.

"good. ga-yoon!"

"yes, mistress hyo-rin." an older lady answered.

"make the young lady presentable... also bring my son up from the lobby."

the older lady from before nodded before ordering another worker to bring ki-ha upstairs.

"follow me."

i trudge along the path set by the housekeeper. in this household, i would be the only one she would have her back towards. we stopped when we reached the room that welcomed me into this nightmare four years. the polished clean edges of the doorframe bring back memories.

"hah..." a deflated flat-toned laugh unconsciously floated out of my mouth.

"is there something wrong, young lady?" the housekeeper ga-yoon asked me with a flat tone.

"...nothing."

she then swung open the door. the inside of the room making my eyes feel weak. it's the same room that welcomed me into this living hell four years ago.
