"Ready Cam?"
"Almost!" Cam yelled from his room. He school friend are having a sleepover and I was taking them to the park until they had to go to his house for the actual sleepover.
The boys were giggling and I could hear stuff being thrown around, "You boys better not be making a mess in there!"
"We're not!" They yelled in unison. When the boys came out they were both wearing one of Cam's big winter jackets and had a load of dart gun bullets in the pockets.
"You're going to the park like that?"
"Yup!" Cam and his little friend agreed and got their little launchers ready.
"Alright lets go."
Just as we were heading out I saw Iris jogging up the stairs to our apartment.
"Hey." She called over, startled to see us already outside the door.
"Hi. What's up? I told JJ I wasn't working today because I'm taking the boys out. Did you guys need something?"
"Oh, no. Just came to check on you. Thought maybe we could swing by the food court and get lunch? Wanted to talk with you about something." She rushed the question.
"Maybe not today, the boys are going to the park and they won't be going to their sleepover until 2 in the afternoon."
"Oh! Well maybe I could go with you guys? Its important, and it may take a good while to explain..."
"Am I getting fired?" I blurt out.
Iris shakes her head waves her hands. "No! No, of course not. Just needed to pick your brain about something."
I was a little worried. It seemed important but Iris seemed nervous, this couldn't be good.
"Okay, I guess... You don't mind if Iris comes to lunch with us, right Cam?" I asked the boy behind me.
"That's fine!" The boys went back to pretend shooting each other with the dart guns.

"What's so important you decided to came along on a fourth-grader field trip?" I ask Iris joking as the boys ran around the playground together.
"Yeah, about that... I need you to hear me out for a moment and possibly hold your big questions until the end. Its not easy to explain without sounding crazy at first and I don't blame you if your a bit skeptical."
I nod apprehensively.
"Geez, do i just... How do I say it- Well. It has to do with your father. And also maybe your mother."
"What about my parents? You've never really even met them before?" I was confused to say the least.
"I don't know how long your dad was around or how well you knew him, but did you ever notice anything strange or extra - ordinary about your parents?"
"Nothing too crazy I guess, I was close to my dad. He was a Navy Seal, and that's pretty extraordinary. And I think the most interesting thing about my mom is she used to be a bartender in her 20s and-" She stopped me mid sentence.
"Not that kind of unusual, like... paranormal? Or unreal type of things."
"I don't understand-"
"I know you don't understand now, but please think. Is there anything that ever tipped you off about you or your family that made you think twice about how you were living or if you ever had something happen to you that normal kids didn't."
