Chapter 5

"That...was weird," Snow laughed. "Can you do it again?"

Jake chuckled with her. "Sure." He ruffled his head in readiness. "Hold this." He handed her his wallet. "Is there any coins inside besides my cards?"

Snow checked through his wallet, only to find nothing in there excluding his cards. She looked up with a hint of twinkle in her eyes indicating how excited she was. "No."

He grinned. "You holding it tightly?"

Snow nodded in concentration. "Yup." She held the leather wallet in her hands.

"Okay, close your eyes and count to three."

Snow did as he instructed and counted to three.

"Open your eyes."

When she opened them, she found him staring amusingly at her. "Go on, look inside."

Snow searched through the wallet again. Like always -the eight coins seemed to have magically appeared at the place she had already looked.

"I don't think I can get enough of that." She laughed at the thrill of harmless magic as she returned his wallet. "How did you do that?"

Jake chuckled and tapped his nose with his index finger. "A true magician never reveals his secret."

Snow faked an annoyance face which he fully laughed at. "What a typical phrase."

They were in the kitchen seeking out drinks when a boy around the age of ten or eleven with boredom clear on his face strolled in. He was tall reaching approximately nearer to Snows height and had light brown hair and a tanned skin similar to Derek's.

He stopped in his tracks when he saw Snow.

Don't. Move. She told herself mentally.

Shortly after no words were exchanged -a slow side grin stretched across his lips as he began wiggling his eyebrows. "Jake. Who's the babe?"

Babe? Who raised this kid?

Jake coughed on his own spit as he made attempts to signal the boy to cut it out. "Err...Snow, this is Olly, short for Oliver of course." He looked over to Olly with a viper glare. "Olly, that's Snow. Our...guardian."

Olly froze getting the message. "Shit. I didn't know you get em' young."

Snow gasped at his words. "Language!"

Jake rubbed his forehead as if he had a pounding headache. "Where's Derek? I told him to get the rest of you."

Olly shrugged. "Dunno. Last time I saw him he was speaking to some chick." He went to the fridge and got out a can of coke. Walking out he shot out. "Laters."

As soon as they were alone Snow asked about Olly's age. Jake replied with a tired sigh. "Twelve. It's his last year in middle school."

Twelve. Gee, what a gentleman he was.

Jake pushed himself off the counter. "Let's go."

He led her to the narrow hallway and into the huge living room. It consisted of four long red velvet couches and an oval wooden table smack in the centre. A black and grey bricked fireplace was behind one of the couches and the wide curtains were in white.

A sudden question came to Snow as Jake told her to sit wherever she wanted. Choosing to sit on one of the single wooden chairs in between the couches, she asked. "Do you have any sisters?"
