The wind blew across the leafy pavement, each leave was unique in its own way. Some were the colour of the sun setting in the late afternoon, whilst others were as bright as the grassy meadows in the summer. Each was unique in their own way - they were not the same at all.
Delia made her way through the city, moving past people almost unnoticed by anyone as she grew closer and closer to her destination - the coffee shop. She knew she was in desperate need of coffee, Claudia made sure of this as she tugged her friend into the small shop.
"Please Delia, you need coffee and sex." Delia's taller and skinnier friend huffed as she shrugged off her jacket as soon as she got inside the shop. Her friend was a beautiful African-American, her dark skin shining perfectly under any lighting. Her eyes were big and brown also held a kind of welcoming feeling, even after all the hate she has had.
Delia rolled her eyes at her friend who she has known for years. "Claudia, please... we're in public." Delia said lowly as an older couple turned her head at the pair who just walked in the shop. Claudia laughed and made her way over to an empty table and waited for the waitress to come over. Delia followed her, slipping off her shoulder bag and placed it beside her.
"I'm not lying though," Claudia spoke again, looking down at the menu, " you need coffee and sex. You are so tired and grumpy, just go and sleep with someone."
Delia looked down at her chipped nails, "no... I-" She started but her friend cut her off.
"Listen, he's not coming out of jail anytime soon. I'm sure he won't mind if you fuck someone." Claudia shrugged, picking at the corner of the laminated menu.
Delia laughed humourlessly, Claudia didn't understand what they both had. It wasn't a normal relationship to most people.
"No, it's not that simple." She whispered as the waiter came over with a kind smile and a notepad. Delia ordered what she normally got, a tuna and salad sandwich with a latte with two shots of coffee and a teaspoon of sugar.
Claudia ordered a bacon and egg muffin with a chai latte on almond milk before turning back over to Delia. "Are you sure? Like he seems like the one to understand why you would it."
Delia held back her laugh. No, he wanted her to wait for him because he knew that he would be getting out of that place sooner or later. Her relationship with him wasn't a girlfriend and boyfriend type of relationship, more sugar daddy and baby girl. He wanted to be with her solely to spoil her, and she happily agreed. At first they just fucked and she would get money from him when she pleased, but as time grew, they got closer and became more of a couple. He still gave her money whenever she liked and in return she would fuck him. She was only his, and no one else's.
Once the food came, they ate and had occasionally chatter before they both looked out the window and watched the people walk along the sidewalk.
"I miss him." She admitted truthfully. Claudia held her hand then and stroked her fingers.
She sighed, knowing that Delia cared for him. "I know you do, but maybe it's time to move on." Delia knew that her friend would say something like that but the words still hurt her.
"Maybe." She sighed and looked down. "Maybe..." She repeated.

Back at the apartment Delia and him both shared, she plopped down on the sofa and got out one of her favourite books from her favourite author, Jane Austen. She began reading quietly until she heard a knock on the door. Her brows furrowed, no one knew that she existed. Everyone though that the apartment she was in was unoccupied. Delia stood up and went to the door, opening it slightly and looked outside, a man with little to no hair and a greying beard looked at her with a smile.
"Miss Lucia?" He asked politely and she looked around him to see two guards on either side of him.
"Yes? Who are you?" She asked, never once opening the door wider.
The man went to walk in, but Delia held strong and kept the door only slightly ajar. "Please Miss Lucia, I only want a few words."
"Then speak." Delia said, she was not about to let a strange man with two even more stranger men into her apartment unarmed.
The man sighed, "I understand your caution, being a women alone in an apartment while your partner is in jail." The man said and shook his head, "must be scary seeing three older men at your door."
Her furrowed brows deepened, "how do you-? What do you want from me?" Her voice grew more louder and demanding.
"Please Miss Lucia, I need your help." The man said, "I know you're not American, but you need to help our country for a second. Show them that two countries can in fact work together and we can form an alliance."
"Why would I want to help your country? They never did any good to me before." Delia spoke.
"Your mother is living as an illegal immigrant in the States, is she not?" The man asked, he knew too much about her.
Delia looked down, "what do you want?"
The man chuckled, "I need you to come to America and... well, let's say make a scene for the public. Do that, and your mother can continue living in the country. How does that sound?"
She knew she shouldn't, she knew that she should say no. He hated having a man tell her what to do, unless it was her partner. But she knew that she needed to keep her mother safe.
"Fine." She whispered.
"Great, pack a bag. We leave in fifteen minutes."
