          Chapter Two

"June! Favour-June Williams?" says my mum desperately. I keep quiet. She begins to shriek. She cries a long loud cry and I begin to realize that I an screaming too. I sit up in bed.

Surely that was a nightmare.

It is dark.

It feels spooky at night, only me in my room, but I won't give up my privacy for anything. Fancy being stuck in a room with Joy and Queen! Half chance I will be stuck with Hudson... in fact God forbid!

In America it's bad enough, I have to share with Ruth but i can't stand people in my space and I say it so everyone knows that. I try to go to bed, but the screaming does not let me sleep. I get into my dressing gown. I think the screaming is going on outside and i go and see what's going on.

Outside, Hudson is yelling at Joy. She is screaming back, and Grace is shouting out Hudson.

"Is it because Jacob has travelled?" She says. Hudson is obstinate.

"What's going on?" I search Grace's face. "Um, June, Hudson and Joy had a fight." Grace looks up, down, around, anywhere except at me.

"A fight? For what?" I ask, looking at Hudson. He looks away.

"Joy said that you were Hudson's girlfriend. Hudson said you're not. A fight started and then Hudson said..." Grace trails off, glancing almost fearfully at an angry Hudson."

"Hudson said?" I prompt.

"I said I was your brother, and brothers don't date sisters. Joy said that I wasn't your brother, that your mum was dead. Then I slapped her, and she hit me back..." Hudson said.

He looks at my bemused face, puzzled that I wasn't showing signs of anger, but was evidently caught up in a daydream.

"June?" Joy says, obviously waiting for my judgement. I come back to earth with a jolt.

"Um, two of you stop harassing your mother and go to bed, I am not Hudson's girlfriend, so please go and sleep." I say, rubbing my eyes.

"That's it? Hudson says.

"That's it, case closed. I don't even want to know how you guys got here. Goodnight." I make for my room.

"Kids, would you like cups of cocoa?" asks Grace kindly. Apparently she has forgotten the fight.

"Nah, I will just get back to bed" replied you know who. I reject too and trudge back to bed. It's now 3:33 in the morning of a school day. I have to get as much sleep as possible. It's just now I'm beginning to wonder what my business was in that fight. I mean, Grace handed it well! Anyway, thank goodness it is a Friday.

"Wake up, wake up, brush your teeth!" chants my alarm clock. I turn it off, and then sit up. I put on my dressing gown for the second time this morning, and then I go to the bathroom.

Fortunately, it is empty. I get in and lock the door. Then I prepare myself for a quick shower. Undressing quickly, I examine my body for any marks or dots; none, good. I then brush my teeth and use my mouthwash.

Now I'm in the shower. Two people can actually bathe here, because it has a tub and a shower, but it isn't going to happen. I use my Apricot Scrub and soft sponge to was my body, and then I use soap and a face towel for my face.
