•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•It was another new day
With the same old story
Another black child dead
Another son to bury
It's a sad reality
When you've heard a story so many times
That you've memorized the outcome
And no matter how many times you've read the book
It always meets its bitter end
But not this time we said
Not again
Like we've said all the times before
The only thing different was that
Behind a thousand voices
There were a million more
They put their pressure on our necks
We put ours on justice
We came out in numbers
Not just the young and the old
Not just the proud and the bold
Not just the rich and the poor
We may not have all been on the streets those nights
But we came out in our own ways defending our rights
And today it paid off
Derek Chauvin is guilty
We saw it
We felt it
And today we proved it
But the unfortunate truth is
There are so many Derek Chauvin's
And there are so many George Floyd's
That we don't know about
Although it seems impossible to get justice for and to all of them
We have to try
Ok maybe don't make it your life mission
Unless of course that is your calling
But when you see a George Floyd by another name
When you witness the same Injustice by a different method
In your community
Speak for him
Or her or them
Say their name so many times no one will ever forget it again
Because it was another day
With the same old story
Someone lost their child
Another son to bury
And that should never ever be okay for
Until all the wrongs are righted on our necks their knees shall stay
On cold ground we shall lay
On their words we shall hang
On their lies we shall sing
And when all the wrongs are righted
On our ash we shall rise
Reclaim what we left behind
Be able to live our lives
Without the constant ties
To a system of oppression
A lifetime of depression
And a nation of lies
