Ugh. I'm starving. It feels like I haven't eaten in days. There's no power, there's hardly any signal for my cell phone, and it seems like there is no possible way for us to stay sane if we happen to confront one of the beings.
"Hey Robin? Are you hungry?" Dakota asks me. Damn, way to read my mind.
"Who isn't? I'm gonna go and try to find something in the cafeteria. Would you like to go along?" I exclaim, emphasizing the last sentence in a English accent.
"Yeah. One second." She quickly grabs her bag of supplies which includes a pocket knife, a lighter, a first aid kit, and a few more necessities.
We both walk very cautiously out of the classroom and into the hallway. The atmosphere is disturbingly quiet, and I feel as if there is something wrong. As we walk slowly but carefully down the stairs, we overhear footsteps. The disturbance makes us freeze in our tracks. My heart starts to pound as I lurk around the corner, grasping my knife so tightly in my hand that I start to sweat. With my free hand, which is shaking slightly, I wipe away a few drops from my forehead. Slowly but surely, I take baby steps around the turning point. How could anything have gotten in? We secured every door, window. . . any place that light could even have a chance of touching the inside of these walls. My body gears up for any possible thing that could be within the next few paces. I hold my breath for what seemed like forever and a day before my body finally launches into the open with Dakota. Immediately, we hold back when Alex yells a panic-stricken "STOP!" and blocks his face with his hands.
I'm furious.
"You gave me a heart attack Alex! What are you doing?!" shouts a pissed off Dakota.
Alex chuckles in a shaken-up, frightened tone.
"Hah. . .I knew I would get you guys. . .," he states while pointing his two index fingers at us, half smiling. "What are you doing anyways?"
Although he is much taller than me, I instantly grab him by the collar of his shirt, pulling him towards me and stare directly in to his vibrant green eyes.
"Listen to me you jackass. Right now there is absolutely no time for you to be screwing around, trying to "prank(?)" us. What even was that? Keep this up and you'll be dead within the next week. Right now our main goal is to outlive anything that crosses our path, Alex. So please act like you actually give a damn about your life!"
Alex is one of my few trustworthy friends. He had medium length messy brown hair, and the most incredible green eyes. Whenever he associates with new people they always make sure to compliment his eyes. It seems like they just glowed with vibrancy. He's currently wearing a black Blink 182 t-shirt, bright green skinny jeans, a striped beanie, and checkered converse; His favorite outfit. Even so, he has a wide variety of clothing styles. One day he could be wearing what he is now, and the next he'll be rocking a plaid sweater and some black jeans. Occasionally on some days he could even be wearing a hoodie and sweatpants. Alex always seems to have a slight smirk on his face, as he does now just talking to us on our way through the hallways. It's actually quite attractive. And as for Alex, I can honestly tell him anything. Even though our group of three seem like we would be liked by at least a few people, most of us are rejects compared to the other people that go to this school.
We walk as a trio over to the cafeteria and search for anything to possibly be eaten. There has to be something here, right? I'm just about to give up when Dakota tells me to meet her in the back of the kitchen. I'm a little bit confused at first, but then I think. Of course! The freezers! Once I get back there, Dakota and I jerk open the freezer and find a dozen uncooked pizzas. A wave of relief went over me. I needed something to eat. As Dakota is blathering about how she is the smartest person in the world, Alex and I start to finagle some of the pizza toppings, because of course we couldn't eat the dough. There was a chance of us getting very sick.
As we walked back up the stairs, we found an open storage room. Alex said he would go back to the class the three of us were staying in at first and Dakota and I could crash here. After all, we were considerably tired looking. High school really takes an effect on us. Luckily, the storage room had a few spare sleeping bags; who knows why. Meanwhile, as we both snuggle up in our own individual sleeping bags, Alex walks back to the classroom and stays awake for a few more hours, most likely devising a plan of escape in case anything unexpected happens.
