Chapter 1

*Flashback*

“what the fuck did you do this time?” My guardian angrily asks as I get out of the police car.

I put my hands up in surrender

“Nothing bad this time, I promise”.

She sighs and opens the door tiredly. I slip past her and she grabs my wrist tightly

“Were not done yet, wait until these kind police officers have explained what you've actually done”

I automatically tensed and nodded. I waited beside her as Officer Holmes slowly made his way to my guardian.

“Ma’am, do you know why we had Andy with us today?”

“No, I do not Officer Holmes, what did they do this time to cause this much trouble?”

Officer Holmes clears his throat, “I’m sorry to inform you Ma’am, but Andy was caught committing Arson.” 

I subtly look at my guardian to see her reaction, but there isn't one, she doesn't seem phased, just a little bit disappointed.

 "Are they going to be charged with anything, Officer?"

"No, Ma'am, they were let off with a warning because it wasn't anything important to anyone."

"Thank you, Officer. It won't happen again" She turns to me and says in a condescending tone, "right Andy ?"

I turn to the Officer and lower my head feigning shame  "I'm sorry. It won't happen again Officer Holmes "

Officer Holmes looks at me with a scrutinising gaze and nods. He faces his back towards us and walks back to the police car and his partner starts the engine and drives away, turning a corner.

As soon as they were gone my guardian pushed me into the hard floor with a surprising amount of strength. Her eyes glisten with hatred "This is the 5th time since you've been with me that the police have shown up! Enough is Enough! It's time to teach you a lesson!" 

I struggle to get away from her as she drags me through the house and to the shed in the backyard. 

I'm terrified - I've seen what's in there - and before I can scream for help we were already inside. 

The shed door slams closed.

*Flashback*

“I cannot deal with you,” My Guardian yells as he stands up and slams his hands on the table. "I've had enough! All you do is cause trouble! You've tried running away 3 times last week! And was caught stealing from Coles twice this week!" 

I'm unconsciously curling up in my seat and trying to hide myself. 

All the other kids have quickly and quietly left to their rooms so they don't get any backlash.

My guardian continues "All the other children are better than you! I thought I could fix your previous behaviour by putting you with some good examples, but obviously that hasn't worked! I'm sick of it, I'm calling the agency and you're going back tomorrow, but today you're going into the basement." 

"Please sir, it won't happen again, I promise." I plead as tears blur my vision.

"Thats a lie!" he spat. "We all know it is! I feel sorry for whoever ends up with you next!"

It slips out before I can stop it "Well I feel sorry for whatever child ends up here! And I feel sorry for whoever thinks you're good enough to date or even marry!" 

I freeze, I instantly regret it. 

My guardian is glaring at me with pure hate. 

"I didn't mean that! I'm sorry!"
