"And I'll keep wanderin' and wanderin'

And wanderin' and wonderin'

When will my life begin?"-Mandy Moore "when will my life begin (tangled)"

She sighed as her eyes fluttered open. The worst part of her day was coming up. The pandering and pampering. She heard a soft knock on her door. "You can come in Saf" Her ladies-maid Safia enters the room and speaks in a soft voice. "Countess it's time for your bath."

Elle groans and waves her away. "Saf, I really don't want to get up today" "Cmon Countess, you know the King demands your presence every morning." Elle slowly gets up wiping the drool off of her face and sighs. She gets up wordlessly and follows her to the baths.

Elle is the Countess of Lichenshire, a kingdom of wonderful and kind people. She is the only child and therefore wants to escape from under her parents' thumb the most. As Elle walks through the castle the guards all bow their heads silently and she can't help but look out the windows and wonder where Alyia is. Alyia, the head guard, was more like Elle's mother figure than her guard. She taught Elle everything about defending herself, and Elle quickly became a master in Bowstaff, longbow, longsword combat, and shortsword combat. Alyia had made it her life mission to know that the only child could defend herself and kick some ass if needed.

Saf, as if reading Elle's mind, said "Lady Alyia is going to meet you in the dining room after your bath." Elle immediately perks up and links her arm with Safia's. "Well let's hurry and get the bath done right Saf?" Safia chuckles at Elle's childish behavior but nevertheless links her arms with Elle's and they skip to the bathroom.

Elle enters the dining hall in her royal regalia freshly bathed and nods towards her father and mother. "Dad, Mom, good morning.'' She reluctantly takes her seat next to her mom. Elle and her mom didn't really get along, mostly because she made Elle be more feminine than she would like. Jade, Elle's mom, and also the most beloved royal in the kingdom is the Queen of Lichenshire. Jade kisses the side of Elle's head. "Good morning dear." Henry, the King, in contrast to his wife, is known as one of the most ruthless Kings in the country. He is always the one to get straight to buisness and ignored her greeting. "Elle I want you to go out on a mission." She immediately perked up in her seat.

"What kind of mission? Thieves? Rogues? Pirates? Tell me who needs dealing with." Elle excitedly said. Henry chuckled slightly at his daughter's eagerness to go on a mission. Elle was always the one asking him to go on different fights and missions so he knew she was going to be dejected at his next sentence. "No. Diplomacy." Elle slumped back in her seat dejectedly at the thought of having to talk to old white men for most of her day. "Oh, and what kingdom?" Elle said as she poked around at her food. "Who said it was a kingdom?" Elle looked intrigued at the concept of her doing diplomacy, which never happens. She is not a diplomatic person. In fact, most people in the kingdom would say that she is a sweet girl, but a sweet girl with anger issues.

"Henry," Jade almost scolded him, "stop teasing the child and just tell her." "Yes, dear." The King said playfully. Elles mother and father, The King and Queen, have been together for over 30 years and are the closest two people can get. Even though most of the kingdom wonders how did the sweetest girl in the kingdom get with one of the most ruthless men in the kingdom's history, the tables tend to be flipped when they are by themselves. The queen controls the king and is often the one in the relationship who gives him his ideas.

Henry is afraid of his wife, plain and simple. He has seen her mad behind closed doors and he never wants to see that ever again. He does whatever he can to please her. Jade, however, adores her husband. Even though he can be childish at times he is her rock and she can't live without him. When they are together, they are unstoppable, and there is always palpable tension between the two. In fact, people in the kingdom are constantly gossiping about why they don't have more children.

"So whose kingdom am I going to?" Elle said with a full mouth interrupting her parents' moment. "Elle," Jade said slightly glaring at her daughter, "don't talk with your mouth full." "Yes mom," Elle said rolling her eyes at her mother but hoping she doesn't notice. "The archangels," Henry said, looking at his daughter. Elle's eyes gleamed in excitement and confusion. "The Archangels?" Henry suddenly got serious and explained. "A terrorist group stealing food and clothing from our kingdom. We have no idea as to what they are stealing for or whom but we want to make negotiations with them. However, if we can't make negotiations let them know that they will have problems with me personally." The king almost growled out that last sentence and Jade put her hand on his arm. "There is no pressure in this sweetie just make sure that you carry your sword with you."

Elle nods at her mother in reassurance and finishes her breakfast quickly. "When do I leave?" "Tomorrow morning," Henry said sternly. "Good. I have training to do with Alyia." She gets up from the table and quietly excuses herself as she rushes out of the dining hall. Elle walks down the halls and into the courtyard and sees Alyia beating someone's ass. "Cmon Jansen! I didn't hire you for you to sit on your as all day!" Elle smiles at Alyia's antics and yells "That's what you have me for!" Alyia turns around and sees Elle and that stupid smirk she always has plastered on her face. Alyia yells back at her "Shut up you stupid delinquent and get down here."

Alyia has been in Elle's life since birth. Alyia being almost 12 years older than the child was the guard for Jade before becoming head guard. Alyia took a liking to Elle as soon as she came out of the womb kicking and crying. As Alyia's children had been killed only months earlier she became almost like a mother to Elle. The little girl had always been a troublemaker and definitely had some mental health issues. The doctor in the castle said that Elle has ADHD and an impulsive disorder. Alyia took Elle under her wing to teach her how to control her anger through different channels. She taught her almost everything she knows about sword fighting and hand-to-hand combat. Alyia kicks Jensen out of the courtyard as Elle makes her way down to the training area.

Elle groans as Alyia knocks her down for the fourth time today. "What the fuck is wrong with you?" Alyia glares down at the 24 year old. Elle smirks and says "What? You don't know already?" Alyia had the reputation of knowing everything that goes on in the castle at all times, and Elle makes fun of her for it. Being the most trusted guard of the King of course he came to her first about the mission. But Alyia wanted to hear it from Elle herself. "No Elle, tell me why the fuck you've been slacking today?"

Elle searched in Alyia's eyes to see if she was lying but got nothing out of it. Whenever she tried to see any hint of emotion in Alyia's eyes she came up empty. Alyia being the stone-cold killer she is tended to not let her emotions come up on her face. A weakness, Alyia always said, is when you show emotion when you're on a mission. Alyia's mission right now is to get this kid to open up to her. Elle sighed and gave in. "My father is finally sending me on a mission." Alyia looked at her with her eyebrow slightly cocked up in confusion. "Isn't that what you've wanted for years now?" Elle got up and wiped herself off. "Well yes but I'm just so nervous. A lot of people are depending on this mission to go well. What if I mess up?"

Alyia sheathed her bo-staff and placed a reassuring hand on Elle's shoulder. "Listen to me, Elle. You have been training to be a royal your whole life. I know that's not what you want but this is a step away from that life. Now when it comes to combat, I trained you so there's no way you can mess it up." Alyia said, smirking slightly as she finished her last sentence. Elle looked up with more determination in her eyes and playfully punched Alyia's shoulder. "Well I don't know about that Alyia...you seem to be getting a little slower so anyone can beat you now." Alyia's smirk was wiped off her face as she grabbed Elle's hand and judo flipped her on the ground. She leaned in closer to her face and with a slight smile said "Who's slow now?" Alyia lets go of Elle's wrist and goes back to whoop Jensen's ass into shape. Elle looked at her walking away and slightly groaned at how much that hurt.
