"Come on, Carrots!" Nick called out, with a hint of irritation in his tone. "We're gonna be late!"
"Hang on!" The bunny exclaimed, presumably from her bedroom.
Nick rolled his eyes, leaning his paw against the counter. It felt like he'd been waiting forever for her to finish getting ready, and normally he didn't like to rush her, but after standing in the kitchen for over twenty minutes, he was beginning to lose his patience. Seriously, how long did it take for her to get dressed and put on makeup? It wasn't like she was prepping herself for a royal ball, it was just a casual night out with their co-workers.
After another three minutes or so, Judy finally walked out from her room and into the kitchen. "Here, I'm ready. You happy now?" She asked, walking over to grab her clutch from the table.
Nick was about to give a sarcastic comment, but for some reason her appearance caught his attention and distracted him. He took notice to the off-shoulder navy dress that hugged her body, showing off her hourglass figure perfectly. He had never seen her wear something so...sophisticated. Yeah, that was the right word. It wasn't like she never looked beautiful to him. He always thought she was very attractive. But something about the way she dressed herself tonight seemed different.
Judy caught him staring at her, and though she had no idea why, she wanted to tease him about it. "Take a picture, slick. It'll last longer."
The fox shook his head and laughed it off, "Sorry. You look good, Carrots."
"Thank you." She smiled, being a little more genuine this time, since she actually did appreciate his compliment. She checked her clutch to make sure she had everything, then took a glance at her friend. He looked pretty good, too, in his grey button-up shirt with a matching blazer and black pants. She wasn't used to seeing him so dressed up for anything, unless it was his work uniform. "So you ready to go?"
"I've been ready." He said.
The two walked out of her apartment and down the stairs of the building. Judy was quite excited for the night, she had been looking forward to it all week. After being invited by the other officers to have drinks at the new bar in Sahara Square, she just had to go. It wasn't always easy to have friends at work, mostly because the other cops were much bigger than her and Nick so finding things to do all together wasn't easy.
"You called the Zuber, right?" She asked, practically skipping down the steps.
"Yeah, he's around the corner." Nick answered, checking his phone for an update on where their driver was. "By the way, you have your wallet?"
"Uh yeah, why?" She asked, puzzled by that random question.
Nick sighed, "As much as I love you, Carrots, I don't feel like buying all your drinks."
Judy scoffed, "You're such a gentleman."
"Hey, that shit's expensive!" He said in his defense, as they reached the bottom of the stairs. He pushed the door open, allowing her to walk out first.
She chuckled, "I know, I've been to a bar before."
Nick followed her outside, just in time for their Zuber driver to show up. They made their way into the backseat of the car, choosing to end their previous conversation since it was going nowhere. Besides, their playful bickering sometimes resulted in an actual argument and they weren't in the mood for that. Tonight was going to be a night of fun and freedom. No work, no drama, just a bunch of adults hanging out together.
The two mindlessly entertained themselves on their phones as the driver started the route to Sahara Square. Judy leaned over a little closer to her friend to murmur, "By the way, you look pretty good yourself."
Nick smirked, nudging her shoulder. Again, he wanted to respond with sarcasm, but he was at a loss. For some reason he was off his game tonight. So instead he replied with a simple, "Thanks."
