Judy was awoken by the intense pounding in her head. She cringed from the pain as she began to regain consciousness, being met with a small amount of light poking through her window shades. She was hesitant to open her eyes, knowing that they would be sensitive to the morning sun. But she had to get it over with at some point.
Slowly, she fluttered her eyes open and adjusted to the lighting of the room. She shifted to lay on her back and brought a paw up to her head. The entire night before was a blur to her. The last thing she remembered was playing Never Have I Ever with her co-workers, and from then on she had no idea what happened.
A sudden onset of nausea greeted her along with the unbearable headache. She never actually had a hangover before, but not once did she imagine it would be this bad. Ugh, never again. She thought, slowly pushing herself to sit up.
As she took a glance around her room, she noticed something was off. A pair of black pants laid on the floor next to the bed, as well as her bra, panties, and a pair of boxers that definitely didn't belong to her. Her eyes widened slightly as she instinctively pulled the blanket up to cover her chest once she realized she wasn't wearing anything. Oh god, oh god. Please don't tell me...
Slowly, she turned her head to the side, and there she found Nick laying in bed beside her, naked and completely blacked out.
"Oh no." She gasped quietly, covering her mouth. "Oh god, oh god. No, no, no. What have I done?"
It was starting to come back to her. Brief flashes of what they did appeared in her mind all at once, which just made the headache even worse. Just when she thought she couldn't feel more regretful, now she had to find out she slept with her best friend! All the confusion about her feelings and their relationship must've influenced her drunken state and caused her to act irrationally.
Carefully but quickly, she made her way out of bed and hurried to grab one of her bathrobes from the closet. Her eyes constantly averted toward the fox to make sure he didn't hear her, but it appeared he was out cold. She sighed, securing the robe's belt around her waist before leaving the room.
How could I do this? How could I be so stupid?! She scolded herself while walking down the hall. Now he's gonna think I used him and messed with his emotions. He's gonna think I'm some kind of whore! He'll never want to talk to me again..
There wasn't much time to dwell on her mistake, since the second she entered the bathroom she felt nauseas against. She knelt to the floor and let out a spew into the toilet, which lasted for a while. It was a miracle she was able to hold her liquor for so long up until now.
The sounds of her vomiting had alerted her partner from his sleep. He wasn't a light sleeper, but somehow the sounds of her in distress managed to wake him up. It didn't take him as long to get out of bed and adjust to the feeling of dizziness and dehydration, but he still was slow when walking to the bathroom.
Nick stepped in the doorway and frowned when he saw the bunny leaned against the tub, pale and exhausted. "You okay?" He asked, nearly startling her at first.
She flinched and turned to see where he was standing with a towel wrapped around his waist. "Not really." She answered truthfully, bringing her knees to her chest. "I don't think I've ever been more miserable in my entire life."
He contemplated going in to console her, but realized that it might be uncomfortable for her considering what they did last night. That was a conversation for later. Right now they needed to recover from the physical aftereffects.
"Do you have oatmeal?" He asked, "
"Uhh, I don't know." She shrugged, "Why?"
"It's for your hangover." Nick said, scoffing afterward. "This isn't my first rodeo, Carrots."
Judy sighed, closing her eyes. She couldn't be bothered coming up with a snarky remark about his comment. Her mind was elsewhere.
Nick pursed his lips in thought, then snapped his fingers when he remembered a certain breakfast that always helped with his headaches. "You stay there, I know what'll make you feel better."
As he walked away, Judy opened her eyes again and wiped her face with her sleeve. She had no clue what he was going to do, but she prayed it would work. Her head was spinning so terribly that her vision couldn't even stay in focus.
She threw up a couple more times before she smelled breakfast being finished. Whatever Nick was making definitely intrigued her, so maybe it wouldn't hurt to give it a chance. She brushed her teeth for a minute to rid herself of the horrible taste in her mouth, then lazily walked out of the bathroom.
Upon entering the kitchen, Judy was surprised to find a plate of scrambled eggs and fresh blueberries waiting for her on the counter. She chuckled in slight awe, walking over to sit on one of the stools. "Wow, since when can you cook?"
Nick shrugged as he cleaned off the pan in the sink. "There's a lot of things you don't know about me. Anyway, that should help with your headache." He said, then pushed a cup of water to her. "And make sure to hydrate."
"Thank you." She said, taking a few sips of water immediately. Words couldn't describe how thirsty she felt after all the puking.
As Nick continued rinsing the dishes, it occurred to Judy that there was a certain "event" that they needed to acknowledge. How to approach the subject without being awkward was going to be a challenge, though.
"So um, about last night..." She began.
Nick froze, as he knew exactly what she was talking about right away. From the moment he saw their clothes on the floor he was flooded with guilt and shame. He couldn't imagine how upset she must've been with him, and he didn't blame her. For all she knew, he had just taken advantage of her. That was the last thing he ever wanted to do, she had to know that. But how could he even begin to apologize?
Remaining quiet but attentive, he let her go on."Is there any chance we could just..pretend that didn't happen?" She asked with an awkward laugh, poking the fork around the plate.
Nick was surprised by her question. She didn't seem mad or upset like he thought she'd be. She just looked embarrassed, like he was.
"Oh, uh..sure, if that's what you want." He said, resuming what he was doing before.
Judy sighed, "I mean, these things tend to ruin friendships and I just— I don't want anything to change between us. What we have is great, I don't wanna lose that."
Nick stared at her sympathetically, setting the dishes down so he could focus more on her. "Look Carrots, if there's one thing I can guarantee, it's that this changes nothing." He said assuringly, "You're still my friend and nothing will ever ruin that, okay?"
A soft smile curved on her lips, a wave of relief washing over her. "Okay." She nodded, "So..we're good?"
"Of course we're good. We're great!" He said, wiping his paws off with a cloth. "Now if you'll excuse me, I need to use your shower."
"Sure, go ahead." She said, finally taking a bite from the eggs. Already she could tell it was going to help her hangover, and that Nick was definitely going to have to cook for her more often.
Watching him walk away made Judy think over their conversation. Hopefully they would be able to move past the awkward aftermath of their night together. Nick seemed to be okay with it, so maybe it wouldn't be so bad. But for some reason, she had a feeling it wouldn't be easy to overlook.
Judy's ears shot up when she heard a faint sound coming from the bathroom. To no surprise, it was just the fox throwing up. Apparently he was only focused on helping her hangover.
She scoffed, shaking her head. "Dumb fox."
