"I got a question for ya!" My best friend Penny chirped, causing me to look over at her with a raised eyebrow. We'd known each other sense diapers; our dads were good friends and have been sense their school days. Though when you lived in a small town in Nebraska, that wasn't a hard feat. "Are you going to pursue acting like me, or are you going to do your art thing?"
I just shrugged. I had a few published books, though none of them made ground-breaking news. They got bought from time to time, and I made some money - but that wasn't going to cover rent. "Probably not as my main thing," I replied with a small shrug of my shoulders. "Besides, I know who'll pay most for the rent and bills." I teased her, making Penny pout at my accusation.
"That is so unfair!" She whined childishly, "I'll help! I'm going to get a job at the cheesecake factory while I look for roles! You'll see, I'll find something and then I'll be saying 'I told you so!'" She smirked, as if she already won. I knew what was going to happen. She was going to burnout, or finding small roles that her agent finds her and I'll be paying for most of the rent. I'd have to write a best seller and fast.
After a few hours of unpacking I ordered a pizza with my mothers credit card that she gave me. She gave it to me for only emergencies, and I would think food was an emergency. We hadn't gone grocery shopping, not that we had much money to - I'd probably just use moms card for that anyway. Like I said, groceries were an emergency and besides, it helped save money for bills!
We were pretty much half-way done when Penny stopped working. I raised an eyebrow, turning to see where she was looking to see two nerdy looking guys just staring at us. In hind-sight, we should have closed the door while we worked and I don't know why that didn't cross my mind. One guy was tall while the other short and had a nerdy feel about them. I was slightly uncomfortable with the way they were staring at us and I glanced over at Penny, who gave me a subtle nod. "Oh hi!" Penny greeted the two - being friendly.
"Hi!" The shorter one copied, making me cringe at the awkward. Something told me this whole ordeal was going to be awkward.
"Hi!" The taller one repeated, looking at the two of us like we were experiments.
"Hi!" The shorter one again, making me wonder if they got new neighbors ever. Or ever seen a girl before. They both seemed weird, though the shorter was more visibly nervous.
"Hi!" The taller one, however, looked as if he was just joining in because they were doing it and didn't want to be left out. He seemed a bit stuck up, know-it-all energy about him and I had a feeling he'd be a tough one to get to know. If we were going to. However knowing Penny she seemed to get us in the most precarious of situations.
"Hi?" Penny questioned in confusion, making me snicker as I placed one of my shirts in the hamper.
"Did you guys need anything?" I questioned, interrupting the charade with a twitch of my eyebrow. Penny shot me a warning look, which I ignored.
"I-I'm sorry," the smaller stuttered, probably not expecting my blunt question. I tried not to beat around the bush if I needed something answered. "We didn't mean to interrupt. We live across the hall..." He trailed off with a wince, probably realizing how that sounded.
"Oh... that's nice," Penny stated awkwardly, making me chuckle at the situation. At first I was annoyed, but now I was just amused. You could tell that these men had no experience talking to women.
His eyes widened at that. "We don't live together!" He hurriedly tried to explain, raising his hands up. The taller didn't seem to care about the situation, though he looked curious. "I mean, we do, but we live in separate rooms... heterosexual rooms..." He bowed his head in defeat, like he was just done with life.
Same, buddy, same. "Well I guess we're your new neighbors!" Penny grinned. For a girl who attracted a lot of guys and knew it, she could be really dense. Maybe that was the blond in her. "I'm Penny. And that's my roommate, Samara." She introduced without asking, making me send her a soft glare.
"Mara," I corrected with a sigh. If she was going to introduce me, she could have used the nickname instead. She knew how I felt about my full name.
Shorty just smiled at that, probably grateful to have a conversation change. "Leonard, Sheldon." He introduced by pointing. Sheldon was just stoic, glancing between the two of us without a clue.
"Hi." Penny smiled, always happy to meet new people. Me, on the other hand, would rather kick back with a book, or be immersed in my own writing.
"Hi." Leonard repeated with a dreamy look on his face. Looked like Penny had another secret admirer. That was just wonderful.
"Hi." Sheldon looked bored about the situation, probably eager to get into his apartment. I was quite done with this myself, glancing over at Penny to hopefully give her the message.
"Well... welcome to the building!" Okay this was going no-where. I promptly turned away, walking over to grab me a bottle of water. I just wanted my pizza and to get done unpacking so I could write, maybe find myself a job out here. I'd need that job if we were going to survive Pasadena.
A few more words later and the boys went over to their apartment, Penny hurriedly walking over to shut the door. "God, that was a nightmare..." She groaned, leaning against the door.
I smirked at her. "That's what you get for being beautiful and a people person," I teased her, grinning when she glared at me.
"Ha ha, very funny." Though she looked pleased that I called her beautiful. It was true, she was incredibly beautiful while I was alright. I wasn't ugly, but I wouldn't have guys waiting in lines to become my boyfriend, or want to be in my life in any sort of way.
However that one encounter would lead to a spiral of events that who knew we would regret in the future.
AN: Hiya! So I went to go find some fanfics, and there are not many surprisingly. So I decided to write one of my own! I do not own Big Bang Theory. I only own Samara and any other character I decide to add.
Also I am not sure who I am pairing Samara with. Could be with any of the guys tbh, though I was leaning toward either Raj or Howard. Or even Stuart. Lemme know what you think!
And with that I bid thee farewell! ^-^ Have a great day and thank you for picking this book up!
