As I stared up in shock I could hear the hurried footsteps and screams of pedestrians running from this horrific scene. Some kind of animal...no....some kind of creature was up on the building. It screeched in agony as its tail was cut off by some kind of portal closing. Thick purple liquid poured from its wounds, dripping down the side of the building onto the sidewalk below. The scene before us was something straight out of a nightmare, with one exception, this was real. As my senses returned to me, I let instinct take over and turned around to run from this horrific scene. Just as I started sprinting I realized that whatever it was, was obviously near death. As its claws struggled to keep the being planted to the side of our workplace, the creature staggered and eventually fell off of the side of the building.
I stared in disbelief once more at the creature writhing in agony before me. I didn't even feel the urge to help this creature, I had no sympathy for this thing. I don't find myself feeling sympathy for humans lately either, but this was different. I felt as if this thing threatened my life as I know it.
They ended up giving us the day off because of the incident earlier today and I was very grateful for that, but I couldn't help but think about that portal. It looked exactly like the one from that night. The one that took him away from me. I had to figure out where it led to, and I had to know if he was still alive. It's funny, isn't it? Earlier today I felt as if all hope was lost but one event changed my whole perspective.
I will find him, no matter where I might have to go.
