BNHA || More than a birthday gift [KiriBaku]

Most of the rose petals were already falling from the trees, and they were paved with sidewalks to all the streets. School only started two weeks ago, but some students were already having trouble studying and were spending fresh, spring afternoons in classrooms or libraries, their noses buried in thick textbooks, trying to figure out what they learned so far. The happier ones and their friends lay down on blankets under the trees and learned together in the hope that the collective spirit would give them enough knowledge. However, most of them stopped concentrating after a few minutes and still talked hotly about the welcome ceremonies or experiences they had during the short holidays.

Kirishima was one of them. He was sitting at his desk, but instead of reading a book, he was looking at his computer display, still searching for something on it. "Hey, Bakugou, what are your plans for birthdays?" Instead of answering, he heard only a grunt. "Come on, don't be annoying," Kirishima laughed, turning in his chair to look at his friend. He was lying on his bed, holding one of Kirishima's new superhero comics. He had originally come here to help Kirishima learn, but after he opened the balcony door to get some fresh air and was stroked by the spring breeze and a few pink flowers flew across the threshold, they were both immediately struck by a wave of peace and quiet. Maybe it made Bakugou relax a little, and instead of his normal, very strict teaching nature, he finally let Kirishi do what he wanted.

"What should I celebrate? I will not be of legal age."

"But it's close."

"Two years, Kirishima."

"But last year you can celebrate with us!" Kirishima spread his arms as if trying to welcome everyone around him into his arms. "One last chance to celebrate with friends before we all become busy with superheroes life saving the world all day and night!"

"You say it like a telemarketing ad," the blond didn't forgive the annoying remark and returned to his comic. "Besides, I'm not interested in celebrating a birthday with someone I don't care about at all."

"I'll pretend I didn't hear it," Kirishima said, closing his eyes and lifting his chin up as if pretending to be deaf and blind. If he opened his eyes at that moment, he would notice Bakugou's fleeting smile, "especially hope Mina didn't hear it, or she would be offended."

"She deserves it for last year."

"She really thought it would make you happy," the redhead sighed and returned to his computer.

Last year, Mina dedicated to buy him, for his seventeenth birthday, a new first-class set of video game headphones which he loved so much. Unfortunately, it was exactly three months after Bakugou almost completely lost his hearing after one very difficult mission with Todoroki and Midoriya. As he unwrapped the gift from her, he looked at her confusedly as Sero scratched his neck and Denki opened his mouth in surprise. Mina ignored their reaction and began talking about all the features the headphones had. After a few sentences, she approached Bakugou, hoping to put on his headphones, when she noticed that he had black hearing aids in his ears, which he had bought right after he left the hospital. At that moment, there was an uncomfortable silence that broke Denki's and Sero's laughter, and Mina's quiet crying, which soothed Bakugou with the words, "It's okay, pinkhead." No one except Kirishima, who went to his room more and more with each passing month, knew that he had kept his headphones anyway. He had them on the shelf next to the All Might figure, which he bought him as a gift last Christmas. "I just put them there, I don't have space anywhere else," he said when Kirishima asked them, but with each new visit he noticed that they hadn't left their place, and not even dust had settled on them. Bakugou took care of them. Maybe he liked them because of the black and orange color the headphones had as well as his heroic costume. Kirishima found them with his eyes from time to time and always smiled.
