It began at breakfast.
The students usually ate together before breaking off to their individual dorms to prepare for the busy day ahead. This morning, however, there was an unusual addition to the table. Their teacher( looking like he hadn't slept for days, which, to be honest, he probably hadn't) was a quiet presence at the table, typing away on his laptop as he nursed a cat mug filled to the brim with coffee.
Aizawa usually was already at the teacher's lounge by this time, but was running behind schedule on account of his sudden late-night patrol. Things had been so chaotic that he hadn't remembered to set his alarm, leading to his current state. As he browsed through his e-mails, he became aware of the stares of several of his students.
"What?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. A slightly groggy Mina popped into his vision. "Nothing! It's just that we don't usually see you at breakfast, Sensei!" The others nodded in agreement, looking to him for an explanation. Sighing, he dragged a hand down his face and was about to come up with an excuse before he was distracted by a screech from the kitchen. Quickly standing up, he went to investigate.
Rounding the corner, he was met with the sight of a horrendous mess. Cereal had been scattered all over the floor and counters, and in the middle of it stood a very guilty looking Uraraka. He sighed. It was much too early for any of this. "S-Sorry Sensei!", she squeaked, fiddling with her shirt "I'm super clumsy in the mornings!". "NOOO, THE LUCKY CHARMS!" Kaminari fell to his knees in grief, quickly joined by Sero for a moment of silence. Ignoring their antics, he studied her closely. He could see the bags under her eyes, and the knots in her usually tidy hair. He let it go, but resolved to keep an eye on her in class. Drowsiness could lead to preventable accidents in training. "It's fine, just clean this up."
Turning to go back to his seat, he noticed the other students shared the same signs of fatigue. As Asui came to Uraraka's aid, she moved much more slowly than usual, sporting eye bags of her own. Several of his students were staring off into space, yawning every so often. Even the usually noisy Iida was quiet, sipping his orange juice in silence. Strange. He resolved to get to the bottom of this. As soon as he had gained enough energy to do so.
Throughout the morning, his class had been unusually quiet. It would have been quite nice, had it not been for the dazed stares and yawns that accompanied it. Every so often, a student would jump at a sudden sound, such as a chair bumping a desk. Even Bakugou, who normally would have exploded at someone by now, slumped onto his desk, propping his head up with his arms.
Still, he made no comment on it, choosing instead to continue his lesson normally. Weird as their behavior was, he chalked it up to still adjusting to the dorms. It had only been a week since they moved in, so uneasiness was to be expected. Still, he couldn't very well let this continue. As soon as the class ended, he marched into the teacher's lounge. "Please tell me I'm not the only one whose class is about to drop dead on the floor," he sighed.
The other teachers shared confused looks, shaking their heads. "Wonderful. Now I have to go find out what those gremlins are up to before it starts seriously impacting their school work." At least they don't have hero training today. Present Mic bumped his elbow lightly. "Aw, don't worry Sho! You'll get to the bottom of this! Like a SUPER DETECTIVE YEA-" Aizawa cut off his quirk with a glare before turning towards his only savior. The coffee machine. He took a can of monster from the mini-fridge and brewed the coffee with it, ignoring the concerned glances from his coworkers. He added a splash of vodka for good measure. He needed fuel if he was to survive this ordeal.
He made his way back to the dorms a bit earlier than the students, keeping an eye and ear out for anything that might have disrupted their sleep. He scanned the hallways of each floor but found nothing. Finding it counterproductive to wander about anymore, he sat on one of the couches to grade essays and waited for the problem children to arrive.
