Life isn't too great for anyone any more. After the last war that broke out almost everything was destroyed. What was left of humanity slowly grew once again.
It's been years since that war now. Nothing has really returned to normal. The animals and plants are still lacking, but it's gotten a lot better. But people now live in these huge cities. Tall, dark, shabby buildings line the streets. The streets are cracked and in poor condition. Hardly any cars travel on the streets anymore.
In the day they're mostly dominated by kids playing games. At night they're taken over by a darker group. Street fighters. They aren't exactly quiet and some nights things get so loud I can't sleep. Instead I look out my window at the figures below. I don't know what they fight for, but I want to join them one day.

I creep slowly down the hall of the small two bedroom apartment my family lives in. No one is awake yet and I can't sleep any more. I'd rather be in the living room than kicking around in bed and maybe waking up my younger brother. He's only four years old and doesn't sleep too deeply.
Reaching the end of the hall I flick on the lights to the living room and head over to the couch. Picking up my school book I flip through aimlessly, looking at the pictures. Reading didn't interest me much. It hadn't since I started school. I eventually flip through the whole book and still no one is awake. Letting out a sigh I lean back into the couch and slowly slide into a slouch. At school my teacher would have yelled at me for this. Saying something about how young men shouldn't sit like I am. I don't really care about what they think I should sit like, I'll sit how I want.
I hear a door clicking shut from down the hall. Finally someone else is awake. Sitting up I look over the back of the couch to the hall. I smile bigger as I see it's my mom. I like her so much better than my dad. She's always in a much better mood than he is and I can tell she loves my brother and I a lot more.
"Morning mama." I chirp and climb off the couch to go over to her.
"Good morning baby." She smiled and stopped me off the floor in a hug. Laughing I wrap my arms around her and bury my face in her shoulder. It was always nice when my mom picked me up. Even though I am 7 now she still manages to carry me around at times.
"Mama can I cook breakfast with you? I want dad and Shadow to wake up to some yummy food." My mom smiled and nodded at my question and then say me down on the floor in the kitchen.
" What do you want to make today?"
"Eggs and bacon and toast!"
We set to making the breakfast. My mom holding my hands as a guide as I broke the eggs and plopped them into a pan. Soon everything was cooking and I was watching as the food sizzled in the pans. The toast was cooking in the toaster and when the bread popped up I'd pull it out and butter it. Soon everything was almost done so I went to wake up my brother and dad.
Padding down the hall I opened up the door to the room I shared with my brother. Climbing onto his bed I poked him. "Come on Shadow wake up. We gotta wake up dad it's time for breakfast." Shadow's eyes opened and he looked up at me with those large green eyes of his. Tugging him out of bed I laughed as I saw some of his hair stood on end from sleep. "Come on let's wake up dad."
"Okay." Shadow said life slowly coming back into him as he woke up more. We went across the hall to the room our parents slept in. Shadow and I pounced on the bed to wake up our dad.
"Breakfast!" We screeched at the same time as our dad rolled over half asleep.
"Come on dad breakfast time." I said and jumped on the bed. A hand then flew out and grabbed my leg pulling me down. Screaming and laughing I fought back against the grip and Shadow tried to help by laying across the arm that held me. Eventually things led to a game of wrestling until mom called for us to come to eat.We all headed into the kitchen and sat down having a nice breakfast together.
