Now, you weren't going to call yourself the best cook in all of Teyvat, no siree. Heck, you didn't even know how to cook dishes other than something quick and on the go for adventures.

But nevermind that, you shouldn't back away in a challenge such as cooking, especially when it was something you had decided to do for the two-year anniversary of dating Xiao.

It felt as if many years went by since the day you ran into him but in truth, only a while has passed. "Alrighty!" One look at the clock, you put your focus onto the ingredients the lie about in the counter. Ingredients for cake. You're not sure if Xiao likes these but he's rarely eaten anything but almond tofu and you thought it'd be a nice change.

"Okay, I saw people usually putting flour so.." You grab the two ingredients and put whatever amount you felt what was needed. In truth, you were diving into this blindly, not knowing a single thing about making cake. But it should be alright if you follow the recipe that the traveller has given you for starters such as yourself.. Right? "This should be the right amount that's said here.."

You knew you couldn't bake but you were still confident that it would turn out alright. You even thought that it would turn out to be a giant cake when you started to see that there was a little too much for the bowl to carry, overflowing a little bit. "Uhm.. I think it should still be alright." You eyed the thing worriedly, still keeping your hopes up.

When it was out of the oven, to your dismay, it was burnt and lopsided. "Ah.. Don't worry, everything will be alright. You can make a new one. You still have time," you said, speaking to yourself and no one else, checking the clock.

Too invested into making the cake, you didn't realize that you were late to meet up with Xiao by a quarter after the originated time. Xiao found it a tad bit annoying that you were the one who suggested to spend today together yet to only not show up. But more importantly, he's curious to what you were doing at the moment. Were you out on a commission? It's unlikely that you had gone and taken up a mission when you were excited about today.

He shook any worrisome thought out of his head, thinking that you were going to show up real soon but it wasn't long that he finds himself pushing himself off of the railing and disappear into thin air with nothing but black and green particles left behind to show that he was once there.

He now stood in front of your house. Sure, he could've just made himself appear inside your house but he does not find that appropriate, even if you two had been seeing each other for a two years now.

He sees that the lights inside were on so it was sure sign that you were still in there. He wasn't pleased to know that you made him wait and was inside your house all this time. Knocking on the door, he waits for you to open the door and when you did, Xiao was given the surprise of seeing your face, clothes, and hair messy and dirty with flour and the other things you used to try and make the cake. "Oh, Xiao! What are you doing here?"

"Someone made me wait on them and what I find is that they are still inside their house," he says, referring to you. "Oh shoot! Is it time already?" you asked, not expecting a reply as you check the clock.

"I'm sorry, Xiao. I didn't expect that making cake was so difficult." Xiao crosses his arms and raises a brow. "Cake?" he repeats. "Oh, dang it.. Now I've gone and ruined the surprise," you said out loud, meaning that you were supposed to mentally curse at yourself. You chuckled embarrassingly, "Yeah, I wanted to make something other than almond tofu to give to you for our anniversary but it didn't turn out right, even if I have followed the recipe.."

Xiao said nothing, just staring at your dejected state, as if he was in deep thought. Knowing that you tried to bake him something even though you knew you weren't good in the kitchen than you were on the field made him smile, but only for a short while and you missed the chance to see one of his rare smiles.

He walks inside, your eyes following him. "Hey, uh, why don't I clean up first and then we can go out somewhere to eat?" you suggested, completely giving up on baking. However, Xiao had other plans, rejecting the idea. "No. I don't like meddling with mortals."

He turns his head to look over his shoulders and at you. "What are you standing there? Let's go make your gift," he said. "But change the cake into almond tofu."

Your face lit up. Xiao was happy inside to see you in high spirits once again, but he'd never say that out loud and to you especially. "Really? Thanks Xiao! I think I have enough ingredients in the fridge to make almond tofu," you said, following him into the kitchen where he taught you the only meal he knew how to make; almond tofu.
