It was spring. Everything around was calm. There were fields and flowers everywhere and everything was teeming with life. The nature had never been so beautiful. Every creature seemed to be happy and peaceful. But at the end of the field stood a small grey cage in the grass. That was very unusual, what was a cage doing here in this beautiful area? The cage wasn't the only thing there though.
In the cage was a bird. A little, helpless bird who was trapped in there, desperately trying to get out of there. The cage smelled so much like anxiety and stress and it tore the little bird apart. He knew the longer he stayed in there, the more strength he will loose. He tried to get out, with more despair, but he knew it was for nothing. The cage door was locked and he was trapped.
As he grew older the bird noticed the life outside of his cage. All the creatures who ran around as fast as their legs could carry them. He would stick his nose out of the cage to smell the glorious smell of freedom. He was especially fascinated by five birds who flew with the winds. They looked so happy and so much like him but still different. He wanted nothing more than to be one of them and to fly with them. Each day he stared at them, imagining what it would be like to be with those five birds.
Every day the bird would sit in his cage and would wait for those five birds to fly across his cage. He would stare at them in total awe and the feeling gets more and more unbearable. He wanted to be with them. He wanted to fly.
With each day the smell in the cage filled with anxiety and stress tore the little bird more apart until he thought he couldn't do it anymore. He wanted to get rid of it, wanted to feel the feeling that other creatures seemed to have any time. He wanted to feel true happiness again.
In the last moment, when he thought it would kill him, those five birds would came and would fly across the sky. When they were here it felt like every negative thought was spilled from his mind. When he saw them he felt absolutely calm.
And that was one thing. Each day he grew older, each day he grew more to the strong, powerful bird he was born to be. He knew that he had to stay strong. For the sake of his happiness. So he fought.
Each day he fought with the feelings that the cage gave him. He nearly lost his mind but he didn't want to loose the fight. He was determined to win. Those five birds gave him strength.
And that was what keeps him going. He knew one day he would be strong enough to push the cage door open. He would be able to spread his wings for the first time and flew with the winds and the other birds. He would be one of them. One day he would be able to escape the cage and fly on his own. He set himself this goal. He finally wanted to live his life, he finally wanted to feel true happiness again. And he knew that one day all of his fighting will pay off.
He knew that one day this will all be over, all the bad things will disappear and he could finally be himself. He can't wait for that day to come.
For the day where he could finally be free.
I am that little bird.
