Bens POV

I had been drugged by a sedative, as not to reveal the location of the school. When I woke up, I grimaced as the pounding headache hit me. The first thing I noticed was that I was in a room, indoors, probably at some discrete location in the SPYDER lair. It was small, but clean and neat, much better than the ones we had back at the CIA.

I noticed my backpack was beside me. No doubt it had been searched and cleared of anything that was potentially threatening, like my phone. In the corner of the room there was a small dresser, and beyond that, lay a door. I opened it, and I wasn't surprised to see that it led into a bathroom, with basic things like a shower, sink, and a toilet.

I looked for the exit to my room, but I found none. Great, I was a prisoner here. However, upon closer inspection, I noticed that there was a small button on the wall. Realizing that this must be a secret button that led to an exit, I pressed the button.

The lights turned off.

Pressing the button again, the lights turned back on. I was truly a prisoner here. There was no entrance or exit to my room. I thought about my situation for a while. There had to be some sort of exit. How would they have gotten me in here? I scanned the room again, looking for anything that could get me out of this dismal place.

As my eyes scanned across the room, I noticed a small clock, and reading it, I realized it was 8 at night. How long had it been since the talk with Joshua? I kicked the wall in frustration, not knowing what to do, and I gave out a long sigh.

There was a toothbrush and toothpaste in the bathroom, along with other toiletries. I quickly brushed my teeth and was about to go to bed when I realized the layer of dirt and soot on my skin. I took a brief shower, and after drying off, I decided to go to sleep.

I couldn't fall asleep for a while, with all the events that had happened in the past day. As I tossed and turned in bed, thinking of ways to get out, my eyes continued to scan the room. There were no windows in the room, and the walls looked like they could withstand a bulldozer. Was I trapped in here, or did SPYDER want me for a recruit? Eventually, exhaustion got the best of me, and I fell fast asleep.

I woke up back in my dorm at Spy School. Confused, I got dressed and stepped outside to see all my friends waiting for me. My best friend, Mike Brezinski, walked up to me, his face pale in the ambient light of the hallway, and said in a voice full of disappointment "Erica is right, Ben. You aren't good enough to be a spy."

I took a step back, confused at what was happening. "Mike?" I managed to mumble. "What's going on, what-"

My sentence was cut off by Zoe who said the same thing as Mike, literally spitting it into my face, "Erica is right, Ben. You aren't good enough to be a spy." The rest of them came up and said the same thing, practically chanting it. It was ringing through my ears over and over.

I ran, trying to prevent the tears from spilling out of my eyes. What was going on? Where was I? What were my friends doing here? Most importantly, why were they doing this?

The voice echoed in my head. "You aren't good enough to be a spy. You aren't good enough to be a spy." It was like a rhythm, pounding in my chest and shaking me to the core. I continued running, shutting out everything that was around me.

The awful beat continued to chant, "You aren't good enough to be a spy. You aren't good enough to be a spy." Then, Erica Hale suddenly appeared in front of me, her hair flowing in the morning wind. I stopped in my tracks.

"Ben, you aren't good enough to be a spy, and you never will be," she hissed.

Then everything went black.

I woke up, sweat soaking my bedsheets and my mouth half-open in shock. My mind was racing on the events of my dream. Before I had time to think about much, my alarm clock went off, snapping me out of my dazed thoughts. I glanced at the clock, and its glowing digits displayed that it was 8:00 AM.

I took a shower again, as my body was completely covered in sweat, and brushed my teeth. My stomach rumbled loudly, and I realized I haven't eaten in the past 16 hours. I groaned. How was I supposed to survive if I didn't even have enough food?

Suddenly, a loud beep emitted from the far wall. Thinking that something was happening, I quickly rushed forwards, hoping to see the trees and sunlight of the outside world.

As I reached the wall, a pair of doors slid to the side. Peering inside, I noticed that there was a moderately large boxlike structure, made with metal walls, and a small, wooden chair sat on the corner. It looked oddly like an elevator. Then I realized it was an elevator.

There was a side panel with a series of buttons that glowed in the dimly lit room. Five of the buttons were labeled with the numbers 1 through 5. The two other buttons were labeled G and B, where G at the top of the panel and B at the bottom. The SPYDER headquarters seemed oddly like a hotel. G stood for "Ground," obviously, but what did the B stand for? Basement? Was this whole place underground?

Shortly after scanning the panel, the doors started to close. I rushed inside, not wanting to stay in that room any longer. Right when I was wondering what I was going to do, I heard a robotic female voice above me say "Hello, Benjamin."

I stood there, frozen. After I recovered from my initial shock, I asked, "Who are you?"

Instead of answering my question, it said, "Please make your way to section A1 on floor 3 for your training."

"Pfft. In your dreams." I muttered as I spammed the button labeled "G."

Instead of the elevator moving, the voice replied, "Please make your way to section A1 on floor 3 for your training"

Seriously, what's the point of having buttons if I couldn't choose?

I sighed and pressed the button labeled "3" on the panel, but the elevator didn't seem to move. I was beginning to think this whole thing was a prank when a voice, this time human, asked "What section would you like to go to?"

I responded with "A1 please."

The elevator began to descend, and the whirr of the engine caught my ear.

It wasn't long before the elevator came to a sudden stop. It opened shortly, and I stepped out and saw the grim face of Joshua Hallal in front of me.

"I see you've given yourself time to get acquainted with our lovely headquarters," he said with a smile, but the smile never reached his cold eyes.

"Oh, we're going to have a lot of fun during our training sessions. I guarantee this will be more fun than what you did back at your old school."

I was willing to bet that the "fun" he mentioned meant "pain," although I'd also bet that the "fun" was more directed towards himself.
