A Steady Start

Marinette sprinted over into Adrien's stable arms and squeezed him tightly.

"Oh, Adrien! I have missed you so much!" She stated as her cheeks were covered with a rosy tone. Adrien had just gotten back from a fashion show in New York that took a few weeks, due to the new stores that had opened there.

"I've missed you to Mari!" He backed away from her petite body and reached to her hand, hoping that Mari would take hold. As she did, Adrien dragged Marinette across the stone sidewalk. They approached a bench that lay in the park and took a seat with the moon shining down.

Mari's head fell onto Adrien's shoulder, and she closed her eyes, humming the song that they first danced to at Chloe's birthday party. Adrien looked shocked as he realized what tune was coming out of Marinette's soft and tender lips. A smile spread across Adrien's face as he turned to look at the moon once again. Adrien knew that he would have to tell Marinette what had truly happened in New York, but he just couldn't bear the thought of her reaction, and how she would break. So keeping it to himself seemed like the only option, not knowing what he would do later that night would be life-changing.

Adrien stood up and lifted Marinette off the bench to dance. He placed his arms around her and they closed their eyes, letting the silence of the dark night sky fill their minds and clear every problem away.

Marinette knew they had each other, and that thought always reassured her in times of uncertainty.

"I will always be here Mari, through the tough and easy times. I love you so much." He sighed, looking down. Adrien replayed those words over and over in his head, for they would become a memory to himself shortly, but an unforgettable message to Marinette Dupain-Cheng.

The next morning, Marinette rose and rubbed the back of her head. Waiting till her eyes finally focused, Marinette read the clock which said 7:18 AM.

"Tikki! I have school in 25 minutes! I am going to be late again!" She rushed around her room, trying to gather her school supplies and clothes. Tikki followed Marinette into the bathroom where she brushed her teeth and her hair in a flash.

"Marinette! Don't forget your history book!" Tikki called, as she lifted the heavy book that almost collapsed on her and dropped it into Marinette's hands.

Marinette grabbed a croissant from the bakery and raced out the door quickly saying goodbye to her parents.

"Bye Mama, bye Papa! Kisses!" She took a big breath in and out, approaching the crosswalk. As the light flashed green, Marinette crossed the street. She watched as Adrien exited the grey car that was parked in front of the school.

"Hi, Adrien!" Marinette skipped over to Adrien and gave him a brisk kiss, as their hands latched onto each other. Alya stood with her arms crossed at the entrance of the school.

"Girl, you really have to wake up earlier!" Hollered Alya.

"I know, I know..." Marinette rolled her eyes and walked towards Alya. She pulled out her phone and explained her newest post on the LadyBlog. Marinette listened to what Alya was saying as Adrien drifted out towards Nino.

"Hey, Nino!" Adrien called from behind him.

Nino turned around and said, "Hey Adrien! I am so glad you are back!" He high-fived Adrien and they strolled along to class.

The room was full of a flowery scent as the candle's flames started to die out. Ms. Bustier called out everyone's names for rollcall.

"Adrien! Marinette! Alya! Nino! Chloe!" She shouted with a loud voice so that everyone in the back of the room could hear her. Suddenly, Lila barged through the door.

"I am so sorry that I am late Ms. Bustier! I hurt my ankle yesterday so I am having trouble walking." She pouted, waiting for the teacher to give her a pass and tell her to take a seat.

"No worries Lila, have a seat please." Ms. Bustier watched as Lila walked up to her seat, glaring at Marinette. She had been ignorant and bossy towards Marinette since they had known each other, but even more so after Adrien and Marinette started dating.

"Haha! I will get your miraculous Ladybug and Chat Noir!" The villain boomed, standing on top of the Eiffel Tower.

"Kitty, you ready?" Ladybug called to Chat Noir who was gazing right at her.

"Sure am M'Lady!" Chat extended his stick and jumped closer to the tower, watching as Ladybug followed.

Marinette knew that Chat had gotten a girlfriend, but still like that he called her M'Lady because it would feel strange if he didn't. Chat Noir had been gone for a while, and Marinette didn't know why. He said he would be gone for a few weeks, but there was barely anything going on at the time, so he didn't need to come back at all. She had missed him during that time, for it was hard having to of the most important people in her life gone. Adrien and Chat.

After they defeated the villain, Chat and Ladybug sat on the top of the Eiffel Tower, looking over the city. Cars rushed by at the last hour and lights in the houses went out.

"I'm sorry for being gone for so long M'Lady, I had something personal going on, but I will be here now. I promise."

At the moment that those words came out of Chat's mouth, Marinette realized that Adrien had said something like that as well. Her mind didn't flow into the idea that Chat and Adrien were the same people, at least not yet. What she did think about was what Adrien truly said. He would always be there? Why would he say something like that, unless he had something else that he needed to tell Marinette...?
