Chapter One

"Bailey, wake up. Today is the day." My mother was ecstatic about today.

Don't get me wrong college is a big step and I am happy to go but I feel fear creeping up on me. "Okay mom. I'll be down for breakfast in twenty minutes." I gave me a half smile to be polite.

I tugged the covers to the other side of the bed to get up from my screeching bed, going to the hallway bathroom. This is one of those little details I hate; morning breath, I completely despise it. The mouth wash came next and the horrid mint drink like thing was in my mouth for two seconds to long so I spit it out as fast as I could.

I rubbed my eyes and paced to the kitchen where my dad was at the table reading a novel and my mother was making breakfast while watching The Today Show. It seems like a typical morning but there is nothing typical behind it.

"Could you wake up your brothers, honey? They have been sleeping way to long." I love my mothers smile, it is a warm smile. She has to be one of the most beautiful woman on this planet, my father is a very lucky man.

"Sure mom but if they yell at me it's not my fault." I smiled back at her; winking at my dad. He knows what I am up to, he always does.

Back down the hallway I went then onto my brother Christopher's bedroom which doesn't have a spot left on the walls and looks like a hurricane struck it.

I run to his bed, jumping up and down on the bed. "Get up you lazy butt! I am leaving today and you aren't allowed to be in bed all day!" He just groaned and rolled to his other side. Which leaves he no choice; I drug him by his feet off the bed and slapped him with a pillow. "Okay, okay. I'm up." He lifts his arm up to defend himself so I hit him one more time before exiting the room.

Gosh; why does Bubby's room have to be no the other end of the house. He is easy with this so I crack his door and he is already sitting up. "Hey, breakfast is ready."

He stood up and followed me back into kitchen. The door opens before I reach the door knob and Chris is on the other side with a evil grin. Oh god.

I start screaming because I already know what is happening. He throws me over his shoulders while I am kicking and hitting him he continues to his journey outside. "Oh you better not! Stop! Christopher; NO!"

Even though I plead he goes though with his plan and throws me off our dock and into the pond below. I hit the water and instantly squirm to the top where he is holding his gut because his laughter is hysterical. "You are so mean to me." I pout.

"Well you are my little sister and pay back is a bitch!" He continues to laugh at himself.

I pull myself back up the ladder and scowl at him on my way back up to the house. I open the door my dad is already standing there with a towel in his hands. Is it a bad thing that this is regular?

Chris and I have a very unique relationship; we understand each other better than anyone else and we pick on each other like normal brothers and sisters; I don't know I just get along with him better than a lot of people. He shows me real life, how everything works and he doesn't sugar coat it and I love that. I guess he showed me how to live my life without the mistakes he and my other brother made in their lives.

Bubby and I are odd, I love him and all but we are to much alike. We argue to much, it annoys me and a lot of other people around us. "So mom what did you make for me?" I see Chris in the corner of my eye. "No mom what did you make for me?" He says just to annoy me but it doesn't work. "Oh you two shush. I made it for everyone." She is to kind sometimes but she can turn on you, I should know.

I hear my phone buzzing off the hook, I look at it and it has fifty-eight Facebook messages, twenty-three texts, and twelve missed calls all from the same person and I know exactly who. I can hear walking through the door now and greeting my parents.

I run out my bedroom back into the living room to jump on my best friend, "Hey Olive, are you ready?!" I screech from being so happy.

"Well if I could breath I would be much happier." She jokes. I didn't notice how tight I was hugging her.

"But to answer your question. Heck yeah I am ready. New York better watch out because shake and bake is coming' to town. I just can't believe our dreams are coming true; we are finally leaving here to go to college and live in our own apartment." I can't either.

"I still don't think that is safe." Chris jokes at her. "Oh shut up. You should be proud." She comes back.

"Well back to today. First we are getting your stuff into your truck, Chris! Bubby! Go get Bailey's stuff and put it in the bed of her truck!" Olive yells through the house to them. I hear two muffled okays.

"I will take that as a yes." I say to her. "And I suppose we will leave here at noon and go back to my house to get my things and say bye to mom."

"Of course now lets hurry noon is only a half an hour away and we need to be on the road at one." I say running to my room to change pants and get my little things into a bag.

The time has come, the last time this will be my room. I look at it one last time, turn the light off and join Olive outside where she is pestering my brothers on how they put the bags.

Oh god not now, I can't cry but my emotions work against me when my mom and dad turn the corner. I burst into tears. This is it my next step on my own, I run up to my mom and hug her tightly, she places a shaky kiss on my cheek.

My dad and Bubby are next they hug me, I am still crying and then the last comes.

I hug Chris and he wraps his arms around my shoulders, burying me into his chest and I hear him whimper. "I can't believe our little girl is all grown up. Time flies when you are having fun I guess." I can hear his lungs as he cries, it is a sound that I have heard but it always makes me break down. I knew this was going to be hard.

"I will call you everyday and make it to see you at least once a month." His cry's slowing.

"Promise?" Is what I spit out looking back up at his swollen eyes and he clears the tears from my cheeks; "I promise. I love you, Bay."

"I love you too ChrissiePoo." I see the corners of his mouth turn up. Olive taps me on the shoulder for her turn.

"You two take care of each other now." My daddy says.

Everyone is crying now, "I love you all. I am a phone call away, always." I hug my mom once more before hugging Olive for my weak hearts relief even though she is crying too.

I climb into the cab of my truck and Olive climbs in the passenger, "Are you sure you can drive two houses down to mine?" I hear the sarcasm in her voice. "Yeah, I am fine." A laugh escapes my lips.

Now her mom, dad, and grandma I have to say goodbye to. We get there an pack her things into the truck and more tears are shed. We head off on our adventure to New York University. The drive is a good five to six hour drive and I drive the whole way while Olive sleeps and I am happy to drive.

It is coming close and I am scared, only twelve miles to New York City. The anticipation grows and I reach over to awake Olive from her car slumber.
