DARKNESS, that's all that Dana could see when her eyes cracked open after what seemed like forever. Her muscles screamed in agony when she began to shift, and her senses returned to her enough for her to realize her hands were tied and resting on her lap.
Dana's back was hiked up against a cold surface— possibly a wall of sorts. She tugged at her hands in an effort to free them. The rope dug into her wrists, eliciting a few grunts from her.
"Dana?"
"Jim?" She called out immediately in response. "Oh my god Jim— where are you?" Dana said desperately, developing the urge to shield Jim from whatever plans Jocelyn had for them.
"I'm over here. I just can't move."
"Me neither." She reassured with a sigh. "Okay, give me a second. I'll—"
"Well, I hope you two had a good sleep, my loves."
A soft click emanated from somewhere, before the lights on the ceiling burned to life. Dana got blinded temporarily as she squinted her eyes to let her vision adjust, and when it finally did, she drank in her surroundings.
The place they were in was a wooden attic. It was dusty and empty, spider webs covering several corners. Opposite to her, sat Jim, hands and feet tied with his back against the wall just as hers was. Nearby him was a small curtain, no doubt concealing a glass window.
Dana moved her head to look for the source of the wretched voice until her eyes landed upon Jocelyn herself, and she was peeking at them as she stood on the top of the staircase that led somewhere down.
"Fuck you."
The cheeriness on the woman's face dropped like a stone, and an ugly sneer took over in its stead. Dana couldn't care less about the 'no cursing in front of Jim' policy set by her late father. She simply wanted her hatred to set fire to Jocelyn.
The rapid thuds of Jocelyn's sudden steps matched the pace of Dana's heartbeat. She watched with buried horror as Jocelyn stepped into the attic and advanced towards Jim.
"Your sister's not very nice, now is she?" She cooed to him. Jocelyn bent down to cup his cheek, and he flinched away out of pure fright.
"Don't touch him!"
Dana had shot up to dash towards him, but she didn't realize her feet were bound too. She collapsed to the floor face-down, and it was because of the courtesy of her elbows that she saved her nose from cracking.
"You know what I think?" Jocelyn said as she forcefully gripped Jim's jaw, ignoring Dana as if she wasn't there. "I think she deserves a little punishment. Bad kids need to get taught a lesson, right?"
