"No....I-it can't be real...this isn't real...!" Sobbed Atsushi as he dug his face into his pillow. Every day since the incident, his life had been living hell. Every room he entered was filled to the brim with paranoia. He couldn't see the world the same after what Dazai had done to him. He couldn't walk anywhere without making sure his surroundings were real. He would cry every night, wondering how his life could get like this. He used to hug his pillow tight and hope it would ground his surrounding, but even that didn't work anymore. How did this all start? Let's find out.
It was an average evening for Atsushi. Laying on the grass and enjoying the gradient in the sky. It was a pretty good day for him so far. As he was enjoying himself, Dazai walked over and sat next to him. He noticed the brunette was holding something, but couldn't figure out what it was.
"Hey Atsushi, I need to discuss something with you. It's serious." He said
"Of course! What is it?" He asked with a hint of dread in his voice.
Dazai's expression went from relaxed to serious. He didn't even look Atsushi in the eye. Instead he gazed out into the sky. He took a deep sigh and said "I don't think you're real..."
Atsushi was rightfully confused. "What do you mean I'm not real? I'm right here!" He claimed.
"No, I didn't mean it like that. You're here...but not a real human"
"Excuse me...? How so...?"
"Take a look at this." Dazai said as he handed him what looked to be a soda can.
"A soda can??? What about it?" He asked.
"Squeeze it." Dazai ordered.
Atsushi took a deep breath and squeezed the soda can. It was made out of cake. He stared at it for a minute before Dazai took out a book and it was also made of cake. Atsushi let out a blood curdling scream and looked at Dazai.
"I-It's cake?! H-how?!" He panicked.
"It's happening at the office too...check it out of you don't believe me" Dazai said with a sorrow tone.
Atsushi ran off and immediately went to the office. He checked everything. The books, the cup that held pens, even the shoes. He backed off into a corner and got into a fetal position. How could this happen? Dazai soon entered the room and looked at the ground.
"I told ya, bud. The end might be near soon..." He said.
Atsushi started sobbing his eyes out and couldn't even make a sentence comprehendable enough for Dazai to understand. Dazai explained to him that he should be on the lookout for anything else becoming cake and count his days.
The next few days were hell for Atsushi. Some items around the house would be fine, but then others would be cake. The cake items were so realistic that he couldn't tell at all.
Now it's the current day, he has had enough. He doesn't want to be in this hell anymore. Everything he grew up with is a lie. He got a canister of gasoline and started sprinkling it around the place. This would be the end. As he stood outside, the night sky sparkled with stars of all kinds. He lit a match, but was stopped by Dazai.
"What are you doing?!" He yelled in horror
The life had been sucked out of Atsushi's voice "Don't you know...? It's all a lie. It's ALL cake...I can't take it anymore....! I need to end all of this once and for all...!" And with that he dropped the match onto the building. It lit up in flames and Dazai just stared at it.
"I don't know how to tell you this but uhh...it was all a prank." Expressed Dazai
Atsushi slowly turned around and stared at him "A....what?!"
"I ordered a bunch of cake that was made to look like items around the house! I wanted to see if you actually would take it seriously."
He didn't know what to think. Suddenly, his life flashed before his eyes. The day he unfortunately saved Dazai from drowning and much more. What did it all mean now? He walked up to Dazai and grabbed him. Dazai tried to escape, but Atsushi threw him into the house and didn't look back.
"Cupcakes are tastier, bitch." He said as he walked away.
Dazai is still screaming to this day.
