Kiani stared at the deer shaped animal lurking behind the trees. It wasn't long before she would have to shoot while it was still there. She wouldn't have much time before the others called her for dinner, anyway.
"Move just a little," she murmured under her breath. She knew the animal wouldn't hear her, but she was talking to herself for hope to shoot directly at it.
As she adjusted her rifle to the center of the deers body as far as she could see it, Kiani shut one eye and pulled the trigger.
The bullet hit right between the deer's body, right where Kiani was hoping it would get to.
"There," she said in satisfaction.
As she slowly walked towards the dead animal, she heard a branch snap behind her, and she looked back to see if anyone was there. She hoped it wasn't anyone from the group. After all, she wasn't really allowed to be in the woods at this time of night, but it didn't take Kiani much thought not to listen.
A small animal revealed itself from the snapping noise she heard a couple of seconds ago. It was a squirrel, not any human. Kiani sighed in relief, knowing that if it was someone from the group, she'd be in big trouble.
Kiani was supposed to be in the cabin, packing her things for tomorrow. It was a few hours before her and the group had to leave for good, and everyone wanted to get a few hours of sleep before departing for the long journey.
As Kiani looked back down at the deer she shot at, she whispered a quick "I'm sorry" under her breath, and then picked it up to the best of her ability— which ended up with Kiani dragging the deer across the ground, making some noise while the dead animal slid over the fallen leaves through the woods.
She didn't want anyone to see what she had been doing at this time— she knew it wasn't a very good time to be lurking in the woods in the dark. And she also knew no one would be very fond of it.
Especially Wyatt.
When she reached the end of the woods where she could finally see the cabin and cafeteria place— which was where they ate, although it didn't really look like a school cafeteria you would normally see at school... more like just a white empty space with a couple of tables where the group ate, Kiani dropped the deer beside her and took off her gloves that had some blood stain on them from the dead animal.
"Everyone!" announced a voice from behind. "Get to the cafeteria, dinner is ready."
Kiani groaned when she heard those words again. She was tired of hearing the same sentences over and over again by the same people. She was sick of this place in general, but it was her last day here, luckily.
She wiped off the leaves that stuck on her while she was in the woods and tried to put on her most decent look after hunting for the last dinner they would have together at the cafeteria they've been staying at for some time.
"Kiani," a boy with red hair scanned her, feeling suspicious of how she looked.
The person she dreaded most to see at this very moment was Wyatt, but there he was... asking Kiani exactly what she didn't want him to ask about.
He sighed in disappointment. "Kiani," he said again. "You didn't go out there again, did you?"
Kiani rolled her eyes before she looked at him aggressively. "Wyatt, why don't you worry about yourself and let me do my thing?"
"No," the boy said in return. "I've told you many times it isn't safe, and it's bad enough you were out there, what if you went missing? It's our last day here, Kiani. We want everyone here and we want to know everyone is safe."
Wyatt sighed after talking. "Especially you," he ended.
Kiani grinned but felt cringe on the inside. She didn't really care what Wyatt thought. She wasn't even sure she wanted to be with him at this moment. She wanted this conversation to end, but if Kiani left right now, she'd feel bad. Wyatt has done a lot to keep everyone still alive, but sometimes he can get too clingey for Kiani... and she wasn't a fan of that.
"Wyatt," she said with a forced smile. "I was fine and will be fine. You really have to stop worrying about me so much. I can handle myself." She paused for a second before continuing. "I know what I'm doing."
Wyatt looked down at his feet before letting her pass.
"Just make sure you don't do anything stupid," he said back as Kiani walked past him. "We need you alive or we'll starve."
Kiani let out a laugh for real this time. There was a lot of tension these past few days. Lots of planning for the next few months and rules to make sure everyone was kept safe. They couldn't lose anyone else anymore, but it wasn't easy either. Weapons were running low now, which meant the possibility of not having enough food for everyone. That was the biggest problem, but Kiani was a great hunter, so she helped the group a lot with the food portion for surviving. She used a bullet tonight, risking the very little ammo they had left in their supplies, but luckily Kiani caught a deer... which meant food for everyone tonight.
