Chapter 2 - Read All About It

"Nice place, ya got here" Donny stated.

"Aha, thanks, its not much, but its home," Sass looked around smiling. "You guys want anything to eat?"

"Mmmmm! Me!" Mikey exclaimed.

"Chill, Mikey!" Raph said, chuckling.

"So what do you guys want?" Sass asked.

"Pizza!" The boys shouted, in perfect synch.

Sass jumped, making them laugh, "okay! What topping?"

"Just cheese, please" Donny replied.

"Pepperoni for me, please!" asked Raph.

"Ummmm... Chicken, please" said Leo

"MEAT FEAST!!!" Mikey screamed. "Um..." he cleared his throat, "please..." he said quietly.

"Um, sure" Sass said, trying to return her heart rate back to normal, after Mikeys outburst scared her.

"... and five bottles of coca-cola... yeah, for delivery... okay thanks!" Sass said down the phone. "Its should be here in about twenty minutes, so what'cha wanna do till then?"

"Tell us more about yourself, Saskia." Donny suggested as she sat down, across from the couch the turtles were sitting on.

"Well, what'cha wanna know?" She sat cross-legged on the old arm-chair, looking down, and started playing with some string coming off her legging seam.

"If you don't mind me asking, what happened to your family?" Donny asked. Saskia's head shot up.

"Too soon, bro" Leo whispered, in his ear. Obviously not quiet enough, as Saskia heard him.

"No, its okay. It was the Shredder..."

Leo choked on his drink, he asked for, and spat it out. "How does the Shredder know you?" he asked, slightly confused.

"He was enemies with my sensei, before he killed him too."

"Oh"

"So, a year ago, when I was thirteen, he kidnapped me, and told me that if I don't tell him where my family is, he'll kill me. So I told him to kill me. He almost did, until my sensei found us. He shouted at the Shredder to let me go and, right in front of me, the Shredder stabbed him, his sword going all the way through his body. The man who made me who I am, the man that trained me, helped me through thick and thin, had just been killed. I remember passing out, and when I woke up, I was at home."

"How'd you get there?" Mikey asked Sass.

"The Shredder must've found my house and took me there."

"Oh, okay, then what happened?"

"I remember it like it was yesterday," she carried on, "I woke up, and saw blood on the walls as I looked around. I shrieked, starting to panic." Saskia tried so hard not to cry, but accidentally let a tear slip down her cheek. "I stood up quickly, making myself dizzy. When I felt okay after a second, I started screaming for my mum, dad, my 6 year old brother Salvatore and my 10 year old sister Serena. They didn't reply, I ran out of the kitchen into the living room where true horror struck me. It was my family's blood splattered around the room, my family's screams the neighbours would've heard, it was my family that was... Dead. And you know what the worst part is? I had to cradle Serena as she died. My baby Serena died in my arms." Saskia started crying, hard, and ran upstairs.

"Oh my god, you guys, that's unimaginable, that's horrible, that's cruel and evil." Donny said, shaking. They all nodded then sat in silence.

About ten minutes later, the doorbell rang, and Sass came down the stairs, money in hand, and answered the door. "Thanks" she said as she paid the pizza delivery guy and closed the door. She had changed from her ninja outfit, and into some blue skinny jeans, a peach coloured tee with a tight black vest underneath, and some black low-top converse. She put the pizza on a table and pushed it into the middle of the living room. The guys noticed her red eyes and smudged mascara. Saskia opened up the pizza boxes and handed out the bottles of coke, in silence.

Then, she nipped upstairs and came back down with a packet of baby wipes and some mascara. She walked into the downstairs bathroom and came back out a few minutes later, her makeup all fixed. Saskia sat down in the armchair. She took a sip from her coke, while all the turtles sat in silence.

"Well? Aren't ya gonna eat?" Saskia said, forcing a small smile. "C'mon" said Raph as he stood up and held a hand out for Sass. "What?" She asked, confused.

"Follow me." Raph replied. Sass obeyed him, took his hand and followed him out the door. They climbed onto the roof, moved a couple streets away and sat down on a roof edge together.

"You okay?" Raph asked, concerned.

"Not really, no" Sass replied as a tear fell from her cheek.

Raph put his arm around Sass and stroked her hair as she leant into him. It felt so right. She hadn't had a hug from a boy since the day after her family died, when she started cutting, and getting call a freak and a goth for it. She looked out over all the bright lights. "It's beautiful" she said, out of the blue. "What is?" Raph asked, a tad confused.

"The skyline"

"Oh.. Yeah, it is" he replied.

She looked up at him and smiled, he did the same, only looking down. "Thanks for doing this, by the way, I feel better now" Sass said, gratefully.

He winked at her, then she laid her head back on his shoulder.

They both sighed simultaneously, as they looked out over the bright lights of New York City.
