A/n: This is a repetitive chapter. It was earlier published in my one shots book "ICT Short Stories"! If you have read it before, sorry for the repetition! But this had to be added in here!!!

It was the opener match of IPL 2021, the most awaited clash, MI Vs RCB. After months of back to back international tours and matches, the guys were back to some competitive franchise cricket.

Rohit and Virat came down for the toss in the first game of a brand new IPL season. Miraculously, Virat won the toss after having a hard luck at the toss for so many days, surprising himself with it.

When Murali Karthik jokingly asked him about it, Virat replied as if still in a daze, "it's unbelievable, to be honest" Rohit who was standing beside him, couldn't help but stifle a laugh hearing his best friend's words. He and Virat shared a good laugh at the toss before the battle of the bests began.

Virat had opted for a bowl first. Rohit came out to open with Chris Lynn. The game began smoothly for Mumbai, as Rohit looked in pretty good touch. But soon the breakthrough for RCB came in the form of Rohit himself, who fell some inches short of the crease to Virat, due to a wrong call by Lynn. Rohit looked down fuming, as he walked off.

Mumbai had a stable innings until Hardik got out, because after that MI batting line up struggled to get through the death overs. Rohit was watching the match from the dugout, when something happened on ground, which made him jump off his seat.

In the 18th over, Krunal hit the first ball off Kyle Jamieson hard towards the mid off region. Virat, who was fielding at mid off positioned himself to take the catch, but the driven delivery burst out of his hand and hit his face, a few centimetres below his right eye.

Virat instantly clutched his face, which now had a huge swell on the right side. He blinked quite a few times, because his eyesight became a bit blur due to the blow. The RCB physio came running towards him to check upon him. Virat had a talk with him, and decided to stay on the field to field further, without going off as he possibly can never leave his team, except it was a very serious situation.

Rohit was watching all this with a helpless angry look on his face. He felt a strong urge build in himself to go to Virat and drag him off the field. But poor him couldn't do that. He could see how Virat was uncomfortable and his eyes had swollen so hard. He wanted to just barge into the field to smack Vi but he can't do that either.

Virat's eyes, on the other hand, fell on Krunal who was standing on the crease with a paper white face, looking at Vi. Virat blinked at him reassuringly and signalled him to focus on the match. Krunal slightly nodded and made a mental note to check on Virat later.

Mumbai's innings ended on 159/9 as they gave a target of 160 to RCB for a chase. During the innings break, the pain became slightly unbearable for Virat.

He grabbed an ice pack and applied it on the swelling. Rohit saw him doing that, and also saw the discomfort on Vi's face. But nevertheless, he relaxed a bit seeing that Virat is doing something to that wound.

Although, every inch of Rohit's body wanted go to his bestie and take care of him, he couldn't really do so because he had a task to handle as a captain.

When Virat came out to open in the second innings, Rohit could only resist the urge of facepalming.

God! Why couldn't someone smack some sense into this guy! But then again, this is the same guy who batted with eight stitches in his hand without any complains, thought Rohit. And this was pretty small in front of that.

Rohit could see how uncomfortable the helmet was for Virat. He was constantly fidgeting his helmet, adjusting it so that it does not touch the hurt side of his face. But when it came to playing his shots, he played it such a lot of perfection that Ro couldn't help but be awesomely proud of his best friend.
