Lauren left Erik alone to pack his bags so that she could talk to her parents about him moving in. She could only imagien what they'd say. A boy?! In our house?! Lauren, honey you're only sixteen and I think its time we need to talk......Oh, God. Lauren cringed just thinking about it. Still, everyone has to do stuff they don't want to sometimes, Lauren thought unwillingly.
Her mother was knitting when she arrived home a brand new hideous yellow sweatshirt. Ugh. And her father was on his laptop completing some work he had to finish off for next Tuesday. Lauren walked into the room feeling immensly nervous; she had no idea what she would do if they said no to Erik moving in.
"Mom, Dad?" Lauren said, "I have soemthing that I need to ask you." Instantly both of her parents were wary and over bearing. "What is it, baby?" my dad crooned at me. Lauren cringed. "Well, Erik's father is kicking him out of the house and I....sort of told him that he could stay here" Lauren garbled. "You what?!" her father said angrily, "without even asking us first?!". "I'm sorry" Lauren pleaded with them, "he has no where else to go and he was just so....miserable."
Lauren's mother looked thoughtful but suprisingly not angry. "I think we can allow Erik to move in" she said, "but on these conditions; when he turns eighteen he needs to get a job and pay rent, he absolutely under no circumstances sleeps in your room and he helps out with chores." Even Lauren's father looked a bit more content with this. "Fine" he grumbled, "but he pays rent at sixteen and no way is he allowed in your room!" "Yeah, dad, of course" Lauren quickly placeted his worries, "he can sleep in the spare room, right mom?"
"Yes" said her mother, "which we'll need to get storted for him." "Goodness" dad said suddenly, "because he's sixteen tons of legal shit will need to be completed, right?" Mom who was a laywer nodded. "He'll need parental permission, through documents and permission slips mind and we will also have to let our rent payers know that someone else is living under our roof" mom said.
Dad nodded. "He was always a good kid" he said, "shame about his father though, he went a little crazy after his wife cleared of, didn't he?" Lauren nodded sadly. "Yeah, he did" she said, "but that doesn't in anway excuse his behaviour towards Erik" she said and was suprised at the anger bubbling inside her. Her mother nodded solemnly. "I'm going to ring him and let him know" Lauren told her parents. "Yes" said her mother, "but don't forget to tell him all the rules too!"
Lauren traipsed back to her room, shut the door behind her and sighed in relief. Thank God, that's over, she thought. I can't believe there actually letting him stay! Another excited voice bubbled in her head. My parents barely even put up a fight! Lauren couldn't imagine having a better pair of parents. They knew when to be fair, but also when to be strict.
Now she got to tell Erik the good news!
