As Rosci sat with me at the clinic waiting to hear my name to be called, I looked around to see women of all shapes, sizes and ages wobble around like penguins with swollen bellies. I was only 120 pounds. I'd be that big in only a few months! I already knew I was keeping my baby with or without Caiden. The "we don't need no condom. I'll be careful" father.
"You gonna tell Caiden?" Rosci asked me.
"I should. Shouldn't I?"
"Yeah," she said. "Do you want to?"
"I guess." I pulled out my iPhone and texted him.
"Hey. Can we talk?"
Rosci and I both stared at the phone for a long moment until it buzzed.
"He's replying." She said. I opened the text to pure disappointment.
"Y r u txting my fone?" I don't wanna talk to you. Kay?"
I stared at his message for a few minutes, teary eyed.
"Eff him Marie. He's not worth it. He'll get what he deserves."
"Marie Cox?" Called the round big eyed receptionist behind a long counter.
Rosci looked up, then me. My heart was still recovering from the text. She nudged me and we both stood up. We followed the doctor into a small white room.
"Well hello Marie," She smiled and gestured for me to sit as she sat in her chair. "I'm Dr. Olswald. It's nice to meet you." Her white teeth shined as she spoke. She noticed my sweaty face and palms. "No need to be nervous. I know exactly what you're going through. I was just about your age when I got pregnant with my twins, Alexa and Aliza."
"Wow." I sputtered.
"When was your last period?" She looked over my form. "Do you remember the date of conseption?"
I cleared my throat. "You can tell me when it'll be here right?"
"Well, we can give an approximate due date."
"Oh. My period is still irregular. It's been four months and I last had sex four weeks ago."
"Okay then." She stood and turned to something out a drawer. "Now come up on here." She tapped the bed and I did as she said. "I'm gonna ask you to pull up your shirt so I can put this gel on your stomach. It may be a little cold, okay?"
I nodded and sat back. I jumped up when the gel touched my skin but then relaxed after a second. Olswald moved the gel around my stomach flattening the chunks out. We all looked up at the monitor a few inches away, dazzled by what we saw."
About half an hour later, Rosci and I got our things and were ready to walk out the door. "Here you go Marie." Olswald handed me the first sonogram. "You're about 15 ½ weeks. Your baby girl should be coming early December."
"I'm so excited." I squealed.
The doctor smiled once again. "See you in six weeks?"
"Yes you will." Rosci followed me out the door and back into the parking lot.
