-----------------There is a tale in the town of La Crosse. Some people say that it is true and others do not believe it at all. It all happens in a house, a wierd house. The last three years I have been studying the house, the people that move in every year and I have done interviews of people that have moved out. I personally believe in supernatural things that is why I decided to do this. I am going to tell you the tale that goes around the town.
In February 17th, 1840 a women bought her brand new house. She did not have a husband, kids or any family. She only had a cat named Mercy. She loved to bake cupcakes for Mercy. Those cupcakes made Mercy sick. The cat was tired of the women doing this to him. The year after the cat got really mad at the women so he put poison on the women's cupcake, it was February 17th. When she died on February 20th he made a pact with the devil. Mercy would give the devil souls and in return Mercy would not die, but he had to do it on February 20th every year.
People just say this to scare other people, mostly kids but I wanted to know if this really happened. When I came to this town I immediately went to visit that exact house. I introduced myself. I told them I was new in the neighborhood and they seemed pretty nice. They were a couple and they had a daughter. I do not know what her age was. They also had a cat and that was pretty wierd. After a couple of months we were good friends so I started asking questions about the house.
- "Do you like this house?"- I asked
- "Not really, I want to move out, I do not feel happy or safe here." - Said Danny, the wife
- "Why would you say that? You seem so happy here." - I said
- "Yes, but the cat, it freaks me out, we just found him here when we moved in. He had a note that said "I'm Mercy". - Said James, the husband.
I did not keep talking about it; I remember it was February 17th. The next day I went to visit their house. They did not look good. They told me they felt sick. But Hanna, their daughter, was fine. They told me that when they woke up they saw two cupcakes on the kitchen table and they ate them. They said the cat was next to the cupcake. What type of person would eat a cupcake that they don't even know where it came from? I spaced out for a moment. I remembered the tale. I told them what I knew about it. If it was true they would probably die on February 20th. I continued to visit them because they were sick. On February 20th I found them dead in their living room. Their daughter was not here, she was staying with her grandmother somewhere else.
At that moment I really believed the tale about the cat. Now, I knew it wasn't a tale it is a real story. After a couple of months new people wanted to buy the house, when I found out I told them about the story and what happened to Danni and James. They said I was crazy and they did not believe me. They did not want to be friends with me. They did not die, when they felt the house wierd they moved out and made contact with me. We agreed to meet at the park and talk about what I had told them.
- "How did you feel the house?" - I asked
- "Like a wierd presence was there." - They said
- "Tell me about the cat" - I said
- "Why?" - They asked
- "Just tell me." - I insisted
- "Well, we did not want a cat; he was just there when we moved in. He had a note that said "I'm Mercy". We threw him out and he came back every time." - Said the girl. I didn't know her name or the boys name.
- "What else"? - I asked
- "We decided to move out when we noticed he was insisting on staying, we knew nothing good came from him. We remembered what you told us and we became scared." - Said the boy
- "I appreciate you telling me your experience." - I said as I stood up to leave because I really did not care about anything else just that story.
I went to my house and I thought about that a lot. I wanted to stop the cat from murdering more people. At that moment the bell rings. I go down stairs and it is my neighbor, Andrew.
- "I have something to tell you." - He said
- "Tell me." - I said
- "It's about the house. About the cat. Every year someone dies in that house, only one person. The last time the cat murdered two people, which means he has two years to live. I have known this, no one ever believed me, but I know you do believe me." - He said
- "Yes, I do believe you Andrew. Thanks for telling me." - I said and I closed the door in his face because I really did not want anyone being part of my plan.
Before anyone else moves into this house I have to find a way of destroying the cat. He has already lived a lot. He has to die. He cannot be that evil! For days I have thought of many ways of killing him. But I am not a murderer. I have to find a way.
I know! I have found a way. Why didn't I think of it earlier? I am going to call the mayor and have him destroy the house. It is not going to be that simple. I have to try before someone else moves in and dies. I have a little bit of time because the cat can live for one more year. So, on February 20th, 2014 I hope the mayor agrees to burn the house. I am going to contact the mayor today!
- "Hello, Mayor." - I said
- "Who is this?" - He said
- "That's not important. What's important is what I'm going to tell you." - I said
- "Tell me then." - He said
- "I am concerned about certain house, the one about the tale that goes around this town. Not including that tale I think it is time to get rid of the house because of the deaths, it's creepy for is citizens." - I said
- "I agree. When do you recomend I should do this?" - He asked
- "I think it should be done February 20th, 2014 so it has a little part to do with the tale." - I said
- "Perfect." - He said
I hung up the phone because I did not care about anything that he was going to tell me. I just wanted him to get rid of the house because I cannot do it myself.
It is a cold morning. It feels relaxing. It is February 20th, 2014. Today the mayor is supposed to burn down the house I hate so much! I walk down the street to get to the house. The mayor kept his word; workers are here to burn the house. I see the mayor and I walk over to where he is. I told him that I was the one that made the call. He told me that his plan is to burn the house and build a beautiful house there. I feel happy.
- "It begins." - Someone said
I take a step back and the house is covered in flames. I hear the cat slowly die. I feel so good. Some neighbors including Andrew came to see. Most of them seem happy with the idea. After a year the mayor built a new house and new people came to live in it. I have a good friendship with them. They are happy in the house, the neighborhood is more united, and everyone seems to be in peace. The best choice I could make in my life was this one. I would never regret it.
