The storm

The pounding of rain, the booming of thunder and crash of lightning. The storm was in full effect. Many people were stuck in their homes. Most of the people who lived on the outskirts of the town were out of luck as their were stuck in their homes unless they wanted to go out and be swept away by the winds and water.

Beth was one of those people who lived in the outskirts. She lived alone, and knew how to take care of herself. She was running low on supplies such as flour or oats. She had put wood onto the fire in her cottage, to start making her meal for the night. She rationed herself now, since she didn't know when the storm would let up.

She started making some oatmeal, but she was out of milk and sugar, and the food she made tasted bland because of that. Beth wished she could go out and get some but she knew better. She was also scared for the other people on the outskirts. They were most likely low on items as well.

She placed a large pot over the fire with the oats in it over the fire and let that cook while she went to find a form to entertain herself. Lately it had consisted of sitting and waiting, or cleaning since there was nothing better to do.

She didn't find anything but looking was enough since the oatmeal was ready. Beth went and got a wooden bowl and spoon and got some oatmeal. She then ate it once she got it out, and soon after finished the bland thing. Sure didn't like it but oh well, what could she do. She set the bowl and spoon in a corner, since she couldn't clean them until she could get to the stream that lay right behind her cottage.

She grew tired, and started to head off to bed. She hoped that the rain would stop. There was most likely a lot of damage as well, and she would have to go help with that. She then went to bed.

It was the afternoon when she woke up. Damn, she slept in, but normally she woke due to the constant clash of lightning. Why did she sleep in now? She didn't hear the pounding of rain, but light drops coming down. She slowly peaked out her door. The clouds looked like they were clearing out.

A smile spread across her face, finally, the rain stopped. She nearly yelled out but she resisted the urge. She just looked out then slowly stepped out her home. A heavy sigh came out from her. Not a sigh of disappointment, but of relief. She wasn't thinking of how long it would take to fix the damages right now. But that would be the least of her worries.
