The Meeting

McGee POV

The day started like any other. We were doing paperwork when Gibbs walked in. We had a case. I grabbed my bag and headed toward the elevator. I stopped to check my phone. It was Ziva. "Hey Z..." I started to say before she cut me off. "Don't say my name! Im trying to surprise Tony. Meet me at the coffee shop downtown today at noon." She said and then hung up. It was eight when we left for the dead marines apartment. I have a 45 minute lunch break at 11:45 till 12:30 that we usually dont take. That's when I'll meet up with Ziva. The morning went so quickly. Before I knew it Gibbs was asking for an update and then told us that we would stay at the bullpen for lunch and work while we ate. "Boss, I can't work through lunch." I say. He looks at me. "Why not, McGee?" Gibbs asks. "I...uh...have a lunch date with Delilah." I stutter. I know he didn't believe me but he let me go anyway. "Be back in an hour I say as I walk to the elevator. Before I even push the button, the elevator dings open. Confused I step in and turn around. Then suddenly out of nowhere Ziva appears. I push the stop button like Gibbs does when he needs to talk to one of us. "What the heck are you doing here?" I say in a panicky voice. "Meeting you." Ziva snapped back. "Ok. Can we go upstairs and let the rest of the team know your back from the dead." I say a little snipier than I intended to. ''Woah. Since when have you been so feisty McGee?'' Ziva snaps back. ''Sorry Ziva. We've had a really rough case recently involving my past, and Gibbs is already very suspisious of my behavior and this lunch break doesn't make it any better.' I confide in Ziva. ''Should i ask about this past of yours that you wont tell anyone about? Or should i just leave it alone.'' Ziva asks in a very concerned tone. ''Lets just go back up to the rest of the team.'' I say as i reach for the up button. Then Ziva moves my hand away and pushes the button for Abby's lab.
