Her body has not stop trembling since the prison break, as if every righteous molecule inside of her screams in protest against the crime she has committed for a man she does not even have a real and proper relationship with.

Ha Chae Yoon fights to keep her shaking hand steady enough to push the key into the ignition. The engine sputters, uncooperative, and she anxiously mutters encouragements for a few minutes before it finally comes to life. She spares a quick glance at the reflection on the rearview mirror that showed an unconscious Min Tae Gu on the backseat before turning her eyes on the opening of the narrow alley up ahead.

And then she waits.

Police sirens wail in the distance, warning the city of the criminal that had escaped his prison sentence, unaware that one of its own esteemed officers held responsibility over the matter. A familiar white van speeds towards the east, passing by the alley so fast that if she blinked she might have missed it, followed by three police cars zooming past in quick succession.

After exactly twenty seconds, she turns on the headlights and drives out of the alley and towards the opposite direction. Her firm press on the gas pedal feels liberating, victorious even, despite it being her first step into the unknown, and the insane plan she has been scheming for months is finally set in motion.

Chae Yoon knew for a fact that convicting those high-profile politicians of their crimes would put a huge target on her back, and she did not plan on sticking around to find out how much the bounty was on her head.

She made good on her promise: to ensure justice for Min Hyun-ju's death. However, there is one more thing left on her agenda, a hidden footnote on the verbal contract that she added when she placed a hand on her chest and vowed to avenge his sister for him.

That Tae Gu will live to see a world where Hyun-ju's murderers are condemned for their crimes.

Abandoning him in prison will leave him vulnerable, a sitting duck for all the hunters to take. Witnessing his immeasurable grief, both in the negotiation room and at the penthouse, had left a cut in her so deep that she feels the need to see his victory through.

Her own success in the courtroom felt empty, as all of her work in the force did as of late. None of them gave her the thrill that she experienced when she pushed that needle into his vein and broke him out of prison through the hospital wing.

She finds that there was a method to his madness after all.

And that she wants to be a part of it.
