Prologue - Envy's Dream
"Kill the intruder!"
Gunshots fired by the five soldiers rapidly echoed off the surrounding mountains causing birds to flutter away. The bullets had a direct path at Envy, but before they made contact, the sixteen year old was gone.
"Where'd he go?"
"He just disappeared..."
"It like he 'ome kind of demon. Ju't vani'hed right before my very eye."
The five soldiers were holding down one of the two entrances to their base, which was protected by a circular wall hundreds of feet tall. The only way in would be through one of the two doors. Inside the doors, there was another wall with more doors that led to more walls and more doors, each more heavily guarded and all encompassing what was inside. Twenty six layers of walls and doors, all to protect what was at the very middle.
"I think I 'aw him over there!" the soldier who couldn't make the sound of an 'S' said.
"What are you talking about?"
Envy saw all five of them twenty feet in front of him. They each had their back to the giant stone door that connected to the dull, metallic walls on either side. Tan boots and camouflaged pants and a jacket made up their attire. Each was holding a Vector submachine gun.
From the enormous mountains surrounding the base, the sound of gunshots continued to ricochet back down to them. No back up was coming as the top of the entire structure was covered in a thick layer of stone. No one on the inside would be able to hear what was going on right now.
"Alright guys, quit wasting your bullets," one of the soldiers said, "I think he's gone." The guy who spoke was very tall, his face long and aged. Wrinkles from smoking cigars underlined his eyes.
"He not gone. He here. Keep your guard up! No one get through thi' door!"
It was very hard for Envy not to laugh at the guy's speech impediment. Not that he was making fun of the guy, he wasn't like that, it's just that it reminded him of someone else he knew.
Envy started to move toward the group of soldiers.
"Everyone stop!" the wrinkled man slowly raised his finger, pointing at something. "Right there. Does anyone else see that?"
"With all due respect, sir, have you completely lost your mind? You're pointing at a tree... Of course we see it." The hesitant, shaking voice of this soldier made it obvious the wrinkled man was in charge.
The three others in the group laughed.
Envy risked taking another step forward.
Instantly the three soldiers silenced and heightened to attention. Their guns were trained on the location the leader had been pointing. The look of fear entirely made up the group's countenance.
"I 'aw it too, but it gone now. What 'as it?"
"Foreign technology," the wrinkled man spoke. His eyes didn't even flicker from the location that they saw what they saw. "He's invisible. Wait till you see it again and unleash Hell from your weapons, boys. We have to keep our princess safe inside, tonight is her special night."
Again, Envy chanced another step forward hoping to not be seen. He was wearing black shoes, pants, gloves, and a jacket. He had no weapon other than his knife, which he was now pulling out of his pocket. After the knife was out, he decided to take another step towards the group of people.
