*Emma's POV*

I got to Sacramento around 5pm, thankfully giving me time to get settled at my hotel. And one good thing was that my job never put me in shitty hotels, so settling usually meant unpacking and going to lay out in the sun on my patio to relax before starting who knew how long of a stay in this city. I had tried to call Killian twice since I landed, but it had gone straight to voicemail so I left a message and left my phone in my room, putting on my bikini to go outside.

I'd been out there maybe an hour when there was a knock on my door. I  wasn't expecting anyone here, obviously, but jogged over to answer it. I'd barely gotten a chance to register that it was Killian before his lips were on mine and his arms were around me, pulling me flush against him. I made a small sound of surprise but didn't object, stretching up on my toes and wrapping my arms around his neck to press my body into his.

"What are you doing here?" I asked breathlessly a few minutes later, only letting our lips separate. "I told you I'd call you."

"I couldn't wait that long," he smirked at me, pulling away a bit more to meet my eyes. "And if I'd known I'd find you in this I would have found a way to be here sooner."

"I was just getting some sun," I laughed lightly, shaking my head at him. "But seriously, though, what are you doing here? How did you even know where to find me?"

"I didn't like how we left things last night," he sighed, tucking stray hair behind my ear. "I know we talked on the phone, but we didn't get a lot of time and it's not the same. I needed to see you."

"You're very sweet," I smiled up at him, kissing him lightly before letting out a sigh. "I didn't like how we left it either. I know we haven't actually known each other for very long, but it feels like we have, and I-I just..."

"I know," he said simply. "Me too."

"Come on," I said with a sigh, taking both his hands to drag him over and sit on the bed. "How exactly did you find me anyway?"

"I called a few hotels and asked for you," he admitted with a guilty smile as his cheeks flushed. "I wanted to surprise you so calling you to ask wouldn't have been the best idea."

"I see," I laughed, unable to help myself. "So how long are you going to be in town? Because unfortunately I'm not sure how long I'll be here and I know you don't have all your stuff settled in New York."

"Well, I did actually find an apartment this morning, so my things are there," he told me and I could see him trying to organize things in his mind. "And the job I got doesn't start until next Monday, so I guess it's up to you. How long do you want me?"

"Is that a trick question?" I teased him making him grin when I narrowed my eyes at him. "Because that's not very fair, now is it?"

"Not sick of me yet, Swan?" Killian teased me right back. No one I'd been involved with had ever done that and it hit me in the gut hard, making my smile waiver. "Love? What did I say?"

"Nothing, I just..." I shook my head, not sure how to finish that sentence.

I felt like I couldn't take in a full breath, my body shaking from the inside out. I'd always known things with Killian were more than some fling or escape from an unhappy marriage, but I'd never had a relationship that felt that comfortable and easy and it was like it just occurred to me that I was married. I hadn't had anything close to romantic feelings for Neal in so long, the reality didn't occur to me. How was I supposed to have a real shot with Killian while legally bound to and living with Neal? I was terrified, but I had to end things with him as soon as possible.

I sat forward to quickly claim his lips with my own, his arms around me in an instant to pull me against him. I kept it slow, trying to memorize everything about him and this moment. I'd known him all of ten days but I already couldn't imagine my life without him in it.

"In case it wasn't clear, the answer to your question is no," I laughed breathlessly and he grinned, kissing me again deeply. "You're staying here with me, right? Or did you want your own room?"

"I think a second room would be rather pointless, don't you?" He smiled as he tucked my hair behind my ear and pressed another soft kiss to my lips. "I'm all yours, Swan. In fact, I'd like to take you on a proper date while we're here if you're up for it."

"I'd love that," I agreed easily, seeing relief in his eyes and shaking my head at him before pulling him back to me.

*Killian's POV*

After Emma left for work the next morning, I headed out into the city. I needed to find a good restaurant, somewhere to buy flowers for her, and something better to wear. I hadn't  exactly planned this trip so I wasn't as prepared as I wanted to be. I was anxiously looking around at the floral shop for something perfect for her when someone got my attention, pulling me from my nervous thoughts about tonight.

"Hey, I know you," someone said and I looked over to see the man from the bar the other night coming in the door. "We talked at the bar, right?"

"Aye," I nodded, trying to be polite though  I had absolutely no interest in chatting with him. "That we did. Though I don't remember much of it."

"Me either," he chuckled, coming to look at things next to me. "What brings you here?"

"My... girlfriend I suppose is the closest term," I said with a shake of my head. "She's in town, I'm trying to find something for her."

"My wife is here, too," he said like it was some amazing thing instead an annoying coincidence. "I'm trying to surprise her, but I haven't figured out which hotel she's at. Her company wouldn't tell me for some reason."

"I'm sure you'll find her," I sighed dismissively, grabbing the best bouquet of roses I could find and turning to leave. "I have a few more things to do, but perhaps I'll see you around. Good luck."

"You too!" He called as I left and I rolled my eyes. I really hoped not to run into him again, pushing my irritation at him from my mind to focus on giving my Swan an evening she wouldn't forget.
