Ten years back
The Moretti household had always been a place of warmth, love, and the occasional chaos brought by having eight children, but at the center of it all was Eleanora. Just seven years old, she was the light of the family, adored by everyone for her infectious smile, gentle nature, and innate maturity. Despite the mountain of gifts, toys, and clothes her family constantly showered her with, Eleanora cared for none of it. The only thing she truly valued was her family, and in that, she considered herself the richest girl in the world.
It wasn't unusual for Eleanora to pick up on the emotions of those around her, whether it was her brothers or her parents. She had a talent for knowing when someone was upset or stressed, always quick to offer comfort with a hug, a funny face, or a sweet word. It was this very nature that made everyone in the Moretti family treasure her even more, and anyone who met her couldn't help but fall under her charm.
However, beneath the surface of this idyllic family life lay a darker, more dangerous world. Vincenzo Moretti, Eleanora's father, was the don of the American mafia, a title that brought with it immense power but also grave responsibilities and countless enemies. The Russians had been after his territory ever since he claimed it nearly a decade ago. They watched, waited, and plotted, their ambitions growing with each failed attempt to dethrone him.
Vincenzo was a man who anticipated danger at every turn, especially when it came to his family. Maximus and Stephano, his oldest sons, had already become embroiled in the mafia life, working closely with their father while their younger brothers trained. Vincenzo had made one thing clear to everyone: Eleanora would never be part of the mafia. He would shelter her from this world. But in his heart, he also knew she needed to be strong. When she would turn ten, he will teach her to fight, to shoot, not for the family business, but for her own protection.
One day, as Eleanora was playing with her brothers in the courtyard, the sun shining brightly over their family estate, no one could have predicted the darkness that was about to descend. Laughter filled the air as they played a game of hide-and-seek, but that joyful sound was abruptly interrupted by the shattering of glass which came from Eleanora's room.
Maximus and Stephano, ever vigilant, reacted immediately. Their bodies tensed as their instincts kicked in. Maximus quickly instructed Stephano to stay with Eleanora and the boys, giving them strict orders not to move while he went to investigate. Moving with silent precision, he entered her room and found the window shattered, glass littering the floor. Something was wrong-terribly wrong.
Maximus approached the window cautiously. His sharp eyes scanned the area, and then he saw it: a note, fluttering on the floor. He picked it up and quickly dialed their father.
Vincenzo, in the middle of an important business meeting, answered the call, already sensing something was wrong.
"Why are you calling me, Maximus?" he asked, his voice calm but stern.
