Chapter 3: Too much walking

After saying goodbye to Regret, I began climbing the Sleepywood Tree. The only entrance to the Rocky Wasteland was from the top of the mountains, hence the climb.
I think the only reason they have it so high up is because they want to narrow down the candidates to the people who are worthy, so basically this was the first test to my long enduring journey. Lucky me. I'm not even a warrior yet, but I'm already taking there damn class for beginners. I wonder what else they have in store for me.
Trial #1: Endurance.
The tree vines were strong but slippery, so every once in awhile my hand would slip and I would bedangling with one hand while my other is desperately trying to grab hold of something else to hold on to and all the while I'm holding on for dear life hoping that the vine that inevitably became my lifeline, doesn't break causing me to plummet to my death.
It took all of my strength and my willpower not to look down because if I did I don't know if can finish the climb up. At times like these I really wish Regret was here, he would distract me long enough till I reach the top. He would make some joke about how slow I'm going that goes like "could you move any faster, my great grandma can climb this tree with a broken back faster than you." Then again maybe it was best that he wasn't here. I'm pretty sure by the end of the climb only one of us would have made it to the top.
As I near the top of Sleepywood, I begin to see the path to the Rocky Wastelands as known as the warriors playground. I pick up speed until I was at a branch that was the closest to the cliffs. I climbed the branch and balance myself up on top of it. With only a 5 foot jump to the cliff, I said a prayer and made the leap.
Nearly losing my footing on the ledge I quickly grabbed the roots of a tree that somehow found a way to grow so high up in the mountains. I used the root as a support and climbed the ledge up until I was standing on front of the sign.
Man I need to work out more often.
Trial #2: Surviving high altitudes
When I began walking my first impression of the place was the air. It was both thin and the air smelled, I guess you could say untainted by city life. It really was a change of atmosphere than what I'm use to. I mean I guess that was a given seeing on how high up I had to climb the damn tree.
I took out my map to see how much further I have to walk. Long story short: too much. Well if I'm going to be walking this much, might as well kill some monsters along the way. I unsheathe my Sword ran down the road slashing at everything that moves and anything that breathes with a growl.

I knew it was going to be a long walk but this is ridiculous. I have walked, climbed, jumped and ran for over 5 miles and I was nowhere near the next checkpoint. Not only that but this damn this air really renders my movement. I can't run that far for anymore than a few minutes before I have to stop and take a breather.
Man, maybe I bit more than I could chew when I decided to become a warrior when I can't even keep my breath for more than 10 minutes. But that's beside the point, the sun is going down and I need to find a place to camp out, but with all these Stumps hanging around that won't be possible.
Knowing this I went into overdrive and chopped up the Stumps and used there remains as firewood. For some reason I wasn't so exhausted as before maybe I'm finally getting use to the thin air.
After the long day I just had, I was not looking forward to what tomorrow holds for me. God, I don't know how much more I can walk before my damn legs fall off. When this is over I swear if they don't accept me I'm going to freakin' cut someone's head off.
