I looked at my blank pages document as I tried to think of words adequate enough to type. "Being 17 is like being a leaf in the wind, floating around with no purpose. You are expected to act like an adult, but treated like a kid. You aren't an adult , nor are you a kid. What are you? " "A highschooler who has their first day of senior year tomorrow." my mom said suttily as a cheek to cheek smile appeared on her flawless face. "Mom, I told you not to sneak up on me when im writing countless times! You know my writings are for me to see only.." I said in rather a risky tone. "Dear, its nearly 10:00 pm , you should be going to sleep very soon. If you stay up late then you should atleast being doing something productive Brighton." My mom was apathetic towards the visionary things in life. "Your dad is coming home early tomorrow morning to wish you good luck before school, the least you could do is get sleep for your big day." "The big day?" I said in a sarcastic tone. "You are right, I should get rest to go through the same procedure that happens every day on the first day of school; listen to tecahers go over rules we've been taught for years." I wanted to pull the words out of the floating, hopeless air as soon as they left my mouth. "Go to bed now." She walked towards the door as if there was a voice teling her to come back to the foot of my bed. Quickly after she paused, the door was closed shut as I heard her heels tapping down the hallway towards her bedroom. "School, huh?" I said, as I layed down, to my cat sitting at the edge of the bed. Night is a time for the mind to wander. I think it's something about the calmness it brings. "Damn it." I forgot to take my heart medicine. That got me thinking about my stupid heart, it doesn't know how to beat right. It's too fast, just like my mind right now. Thoughts keep streaming in and out of my mind. What is the point of stars? Who made these stars? Why does school start tomorrow? Is there a God? My thoughts are scattered in diverse areas. It's probably an effect of my ADD. I woke up to the sound of my ringing alarm. "Ughh." I must of drifted to sleep last night without realizing. "6:00 am?" I walked toward my mirror leaning upon my boring, white walls. My long brown hair is tangled in knots... I need to stop going to bed with it wet. I wish I had blonde hair likr my mom. I wasn't near as pretty as her. "Kasey: Hey, what are you wearing?" is the first text I respond to. Kasey is my best friend, she has been since I can remember. She's also beautiful.. much more than my plain self. Kasey is always dressed up nice... I don't know why she cares about my wardrobe choices for the day. I replied, "A t-shirt and jeans" then walked out of my bedroom door to the kitchen. "Hello dear, better eat a healthy breakfast to fuel you for this big day." i grabbed a banana. "Where's dad?" She had a sad look in her eyes. "Oh, it turns out he couldn't make it. He told me to tell you good luck." "Why couldn't he make it?" I knew my questions always bothered her, but I needed to know. "He's tied up at work honey, you better get going. I love you, have a great first day." "I love you too." My family isn't one of open emotions, my mom rarely says I love you. I know she does, there's no need for it. I walked out the front door and got in my car.
