set right after zane found out he was a nindroid

it was late and everyone had gone to bed...well everyone except zane, he just couldnt get to sleep, usually he had no trouble sleeping, but everything that had happened in the past few hours swirled around in his brain at speeds he couldnt process

-him finding out he was a nindroid, his father, everything from his first life, reaching his true potential- it was all just so much

as the clock on zanes nightstand hit 1am zane sighed and decided to give up on sleep, quietly he got up and slipped out of the room, being carefull not to wake everyone.

he slipped past nya and sensie's room and outside.

the air was cool, and felt good on his skin -metal

he layed down on the bounty deck and as he looked up at the stars that lit the night sky ablaze, zane could almost believe that earlier hadnt happened

-that he was normal just like everyone else, that he had been an orphan all his life just as he had believed for the past few years. he, of course he knew he had always been different but-

"zane?"

zane turned his head to see jay squinting at him while leaning against tthe doorway, the sleepy -but slightly concerned- expression jay gave off making him look kinda cute...wait what he quickly sat up shaking his head and trying to figure out what the feeling in his stomach meant -perhaps it was a malfunction?

"jay, it is late, why are you not in bed?"

"i could ask you the same question" jay replied as he made his way over.

"i woke up to use the restroom and saw you werent in your bed" jay said as he sat down beside zane "what about you why are you up?" he asked

zane sighed "i...-i could not sleep so i came out here...the stars have always been a comfort to me..."

instead of mentioning that zane could easily punch in the code for forced sleep -as zane knew jay had poured over all the blueprints for his design just as much if not more then him- jay nodded.

"oh yeah, i used to stargaze all the time back home" jay said as he looked up towards the sky. "i would go behind the junkyard and just lay flat on the sand and watch em, heh, got sand all over me of course, but ma and pa never minded" he chuckled at the memory

"In fact sometimes the-" "jay" zane cut him off, which wasnt something zane usually did.

"yeah whats up?"

"....how are you all doing it?" he asked, leaving jay confused

"doing what?"

"you" zane hesitated and turned away from him but continued "-your all talking to me so...normally after everything, why?" 

jay's eyes lit up in understanding and he made a little 'on' sound.

"zane...we treat you the same because you are the same" he leaned over, touching his shoulder to Zane's "your the same as you were yesterday, and thr day before that, and the week before that"

"...but I am different" he protested. 'a machine' he said silently

"so?" jay replied. "I'm different too, I'm loud and I talk a lot and get really hyper sometimes and I get stuck in weird places, and -and kai is rash, stubborn and overprotective and sensie is....sensie but what im trying to say is were all different"

Zane thought about this for a moment the turned his head to look at jay for confirmation.

"its just like kai said 'no matter What, your still out brother' "

jay opened his arms slightly, and zane greatfully accepted the hug.

when zane let go he had to stop himself from gasping, the way jay's hair was ruffling in the wind and his face glowing slightly from the moonlight making zane feel the emotions from earlier again. he should really that checked.

"now come on let's go back to bed" jay rose up and put his hand out for zane to take, zane accepted and let jay pull him up.

jay looked confused for a second when zane didn't let go afterwards but smiled and didn't say anything, instead leading the both of them back to their shared room and if zane gave him another hug right before they went back to their own beds well that was between jay and him.
