You're not ready

Jasmin called in sick the next day after getting a message from Cainan, informing her he would come to pick her up for the optical checkup, fitness test and, last, to check out some apartment.

She had had a hard time sleeping after she got home last night and it wasn't because of the need to digest the somewhat heavy dinner she had eaten at the restaurant but from the thoughts of the day. She couldn't help worrying about the medical fitness test in particular and she knew particular, her pregnancy would not remain a secret for much longer. There was no pride in hiding her pregnancy. It just happened. She always thought she would have her partner around her when pregnant, but that wasn't the case she was in.

She didn't lie to him. He didn't believe she was pregnant and ticked the 'no' box and that was completely on him and no one else.

She wasn't contemplating ending the pregnancy either; it was a new leaf for her and despite things being hard on her since she left Dennis; she didn't want it any other way. Turning a new leaf wasn't easy, though. She still stole, lied, and was dishonest, but she wanted to be a better person and hopefully turn her life around for her unborn child.

Her phone rang, snapping her out of her thoughts, and she picked it up to look at it. And the caller ID was Anita's. "Hello," she said as she walked out of the bathroom.

"I heard you called in sick and won't be coming to work today," she said, sounding a little worried.

She moved to the bed and sat down on it. "Yeah, just a little dizzy, that's all." It wasn't a lie. She felt dizzy and nauseous when she woke today, but she had felt that way since she became pregnant and the doctor told her it was the morning sickness and it was perfectly fine.

“I think you should see the doctor and have it checked out. Hope it's not something serious.”

"I hope so too and I will do that today." She said which again was true, but not in the way Anita would see it. "Thank you."

"You're welcome, dear. Call me if you need anything and take good care of yourself. I'll miss you."

“I'll do that, and I'll miss you, too.”

The call barely ended when she heard a knock on her door and she heard Anita's voice on the other end asking, "Are you expecting someone?"

No, she almost replied, but realised that would just mess things up and make Anita more worried for her than she already was.

"The flickered off yesterday and I had to call the electrician, that must be him" she lied, "talk later." She didn't wait for Anita's response before ending the call. The knock came to the door for the second time, and she held onto the towel around her and hurried to the door.

"Who's there?"

"I told you I was going to come and pick you up at seven-thirty and it's seven thirty-three, Jasmin, open up."

"You know saying 'it's me, Cainan, open up' would have saved us both the long speech you just gave?" She grumbled, but unlocked my door, anyway.

He pushed the door wider and stepped into the room.

"Well, come in," she sarcastically said before slamming the door close before glaring at the back of his head.

He raised his eyes from his phone before taking notice of her. "You're not ready."

Unlike last night, he was wearing a more formal outfit, a navy blue suit and tie with a white long sleeve on the inside. His hair was neat and well-brushed to the back and there appeared to be a few stubbles on his face and they made Jasmin tingle on the inside.
