stepped out of the school shower reaching for my towel. I look up at the clock to see 3:06 staring back at me, reminding that I’m late. “Crap.” I thought, “ He’s definitely going to be there walking through the pools doors any second. I put on my clothes fast knowing that there’s no hope even if I rush but, I did anyway. My hair still damp dripping on my shirt as I start to run. He’s not here, thank god. I caught a break. “Hey Caleb!” I stop and cringe leaning forward slightly. looking like a kid that got caught doing something they shouldn’t. I was half way across the tiled floor when I heard his voice. “Sorry I’m late. Didn’t mean to keep ‘ya waiting.” I straighten my back turning towards him. To think I had a chance from escaping Axel. “damn it.’ I said under my breath. I look up slowly, meeting his gaze. He picks me up by my shirt collar and slams me against the blue set of metal lockers, a dial pressing in to my spine causing me to let a small yelp escape my lips. He lifts his fist “Any last words, freak?” I knew this was going to hurt a lot, so I decided to make it a tad worse. Obviously, Not caring about the pain to follow. “Just that you are an asshHOLLY SHIT!” I screamed as his chest started to glow blue through his white tee shirt, “Your chest is lighting up like Tony Stark’s!” “Who!?!” he said startled. “It doesn’t matter! What’s important is its lighting up at the same time as mine!” He released the hold on my shirt. “Oh GOD! YOU! IT’S YOU!?! I THINK I’M GOINNA PUKE!” I shriek as I backed up edging closer to the water. “REALLY! YOU! JESUS!” he was yelling also. The doors began to open. “Hey Axel! You must have hit him good by all the yelling he made!” Axel began to zip up his jacket and made a split second dissicon to punch me in the jaw and pushing me in the water. I see him jogging away with his two personal idiots. I swam up, my lungs desperate for air. I hop out of the water looking at my torso the fluorescent light now dimming. I walk out to the parking lot with my keys in hand. I reach  my beat up black Ford and hop in. After the ten minute drive, I walk in the door of my house. I tap Kayla on the shoulder as I set down my keys on the end table next to our cream colored sofa. She looked up and smiled at me. She saw I was dripping wet with the bruise forming on my jaw. Her mouth dropped open as she lightly skimed the purple greenish mark on my face and her hands began to fly at the speed of light. YOU NEED ICE! WHY ARE YOU WET!?! WAS IT ONLY ONE HIT?! Yes, it was only one hit. Axel shoved me in the pool. Don’t worry, I’ll get ice right away nurse Kayla. I give her a light half smile hopefully putting her at ease. Knowing her, it didn’t do a damn thing. My sister Kayla is fifteen. Beautiful brown eyes and long brown hair to match. Kayla is also deaf but she doesn’t let it slow her down. I am Kaylas illegal guardian. I’m only seventeen, still a minor, and completely responsible for her. Our parents died in a car crash when I was fifteen and she was thirteen. We had no family left. I weaseled my way through the government system bribing people along the way to make sure we didn’t get sent to a home. It was hard having a fake ID that says you’re 18 when you can barely pass for 15. I didn’t get out much in fear of having to pull out the lie printed on a card and show it to people if necessary. The good thing is when my parents died, all the house payments were covered and they left a will leaving every cent they own to us. I work part time with a decent job as a computer technician. I walk into my room pulling out a pair of sweatpants and a baggy tee shirt. I look at myself in the mirror. I have short light red hair, about 5’7, mint green eyes covered by black rimmed glasses, and I’m pretty scrawny really. If I were a girl I could pass as “willowy” but whatever. I sighed and my reflection did the same. I thought about Axel and the events of today. “How the hell is he my soulmate!?” He hates me!” I yelled. He beats me up for christ sake!” After waving my arms around like an idiot I bowed my head in defeat from not finding an answer. The good thing about having a deaf sister is you can scream at the top of your lungs and she’ll never hear you. It makes for great privacy to be honest. the smell of chlorine permeated my skin, I didn’t care though. I walked out of my room and into the living area. I thought if I should tell Kayla about the full story about the pool incident. I can usually tell her anything as she can with me, but I decided against it. I plopped down on the sofa. Kayla sat with me, her head on my shoulder. I began to stroke her hair lightly like our dad used to. It hit me every time I looked at her on how much she looked like mom. The way her smile lit a room, how she styles her hair, the way she holds herself. She was going to make someone very happy one day. her sign for me was face book because I was always reading and studying. Hence, my name. she would shorten it up to book though. I called her speedy because how fast her hands moved when she spoke through sign language. We called Axel asshole since he was one. We stayed like that for a couple hours. I’m glad she didn’t lecture me on have to telling someone for the one millionth time. We didn’t need TV or movies to be together. Just simple things like this is what brings us together.
