The rain poured down in sheets. The sky was dark. If you had looked around, it would seem that the streets were empty. If you had looked up, you might've seen the young green haired boy on the top of the tallest building on the block. There was no light in his eyes, dull and grey.
If you'd have asked any of his family or his friend, his one friend, they would've told you about the bright smile and the shining light in his eyes. They probably wouldn't recognize the boy on the rooftop.
You might've seen a small yellow bag and a notebook sitting near the edge, the red shoes next to them, the tear stained papers on the shoes, the broken eyes of the boy, who could be no older than 15.
If you looked up, you might've seen the last moments of a young man's life, as he says goodbye to the world.
If you looked up, you might've seen the dark haired, red eyed pro hero racing to catch the boy as he falls, only to miss him by seconds.
You could've seen the life of someone who makes a difference in other timelines, other worlds, but that is not here and now.
If you looked up, you might've seen the loss of a human life, but you didn't look up. You didn't see the young boy's eyes fade as he bled out in an alleyway. You didn't see a pro hero panic and cry out in distress.
You didn't. Look. Up.
