"What do you mean am getting engaged tomorrow? "
"It means your father's business partner's daughter will be becoming your fiancée from tomorrow, " His mother informed as a matter of fact, drying the utensils in her hand.
"Mom, " He was trying not to throw a tantrum and earn an earful about being responsible, "I just got into a job! What's the rush? "
"You're 23 honey-bear, " She sing-sang smiling to herself, " How long do you want me to wait? "
"Mom but—"
"Taehyung, " His mother interrupted, taking a sharper tone, "it's for your good, besides, the marriage is only after a couple of months if things go as planned"
Taehyung was never equipped enough with words when it came to protest against his mother. Not certainly when he had a boyfriend waiting for him at the library, few shops downtown. So zipping his mouth shut, grabbing his jacket, he threw a casual 'am going out' over his shoulder before walking outside.
His highschool sweetheart and dear boyfriend for 4 years waved at him, grinning widely as he walked over to peck his cheeks flushed red under the cold.
"You're oddly late, " He remarked, rubbing his palms in the cold. Of course he would know. "And off"
As they entered the library together, the bells chiming to signify their presence, Taehyung turned to him and blurted out, "am getting engaged" a short pause later adding, "tomorrow"
He hadn't yet turned look at him. Look into those big brown eyes. He couldn't bring himself to.
But two fingers, callous from playing football, lifted his face up to the worry scrunched features of his boyfriend. He couldn't get enough of the title, let alone be ready to already leave it. But when his dear boy friend, who knew him like at the back of his palm, wiped a tear down his cheek and asked, "you okay? " He wanted to hold his collars, scream at his face and yell back, asking how could he. But all he did was shake his head with more hot tears plummeting down his cheeks, and bury himself into his boyfriend's built chest. And it felt vividly warm.
The library was empty. It always was, and undoubtedly now that it was fall.
"What do we do now? " It came out muffled, as he buried himself deeper into his chest. A short pause later, the reply came, his voice almost lulling him despite the circumstances. "I don't know, Tae"
In the next few moments of silence, his head ran miles while his hand fiddled with the flyer of his boyfriend's jacket. And right when Taehyung decided to break the silence, he beat him to it. "But am not ready to lose you"
"Me neither, " He mumbled, red dusting his cheeks both at his own reply and the look he received from him.
They were just gazing into each other's eyes, huddled together amongst tons of old novels and torn comic books. And he decided, this was home. So he just spoke what came to his muddled brain next, "will you marry me, Jungkook? "
He looked taken aback. Fuck that, Taehyung himself was taken aback. But then his features softened, and that charming smile accompanied he replied, "anytime"
That's all he needed. Needed to fumble for his phone, call their gang inviting them for an immediate marriage at a nearby church. And he held Jungkook's hand, a new found confidence and adrenaline rushing through his veins before running towards his house. Asking him to bring his own documents and get to the church he mentioned, he ran into his own quietly fetching them from his closet.
