Ships: Bokuaka
Akaashi's day seemed unnaturally long. It shouldn't be possible for one class to last a lifetime. And yet, here he was. In his math class. Slowly dying.
It wasn't like he should be paying attention. Akaashi already knew all of this. But apparently his teacher thought otherwise. The sixty-five year old man had covered the same lesson yesterday, but when another student in his class tried to tell him that, the man just brushed the concern aside.
And so, Akaashi sat there, staring into space. At some point, he had picked up his pen and started randomly doodling on his paper. The swirls soon morphed into words, and Akaashi masterfully wrote down the name that hovered in the back of his mind.
Bokuto Koutaro
He repeated it over and over, changing to script every time. The first had large, loopy letters, the next a neat print. He must have scrawled the words a hundred times over before finally glancing up.
To his left sat a wide eyed boy, staring straight at him. Or rather, at his notebook. Akaashi glanced back down and finally registered what he did. The paper was covered from top to bottom with Bokuto's name. Yikes. He must think I'm crazy. Or obsessed with Bokuto. I don't know which ones worse.
Thankfully, the bell rang, and Akaashi booked it out of the classroom before he could be asked any questions. Unfortunately, so did the kid next to him.
"Wait!" He yelled as he rushed through the hallway, catching up. Akaashi slowed down, defeated.
"What?" He asked in his usual monotone voice.
"Um, was that Bokuto's name you were writing?" The boy asked suspiciously.
"No." Akaashi kept walking, hoping he would lose interest. No luck. The kid ignored him completely and kept bombarding him with questions.
"Like, the Bokuto that goes here? The one that keeps falling for the plastic wrap prank?"
"No." Akaashi repeated.
"Of course not. You don't seem like the type of person to hang with him. There's probably another Bokuto Koutaro. Does he go to this school too?" The kid kept rambling on, but Akaashi had stopped listening. Something he said had struck a nerve.
You don't seem like the type of person to hang with him.
For some reason, the words had unsettled him. Why? Am I not cool enough? Is that what he meant? Or maybe he meant we just wouldn't mesh well together. Do we mesh well together? What if we don't? What if Bokuto's just humoring me? What if he never actually liked me? What if-
"AKAAAAGAAAASSHIIIIIII"
Akaashi turned to see Bokuto barreling down the hallway to him.
"We still on for tonight?" The owl asked.
"Tonight?" Akaashi echoed, still partly in his thoughts.
"Our frozen yogurt date!" Bokuto exclaimed before his face contorted. "Oh no, did I get the date wrong?"
At seeing Bokuto's disappointed face, Akaashi snapped into action.
"No no Bokuto-san." He reassured him. "You got it right. I'm just a little spacey right now."
"Noooooooooo!" Bokuto yelled dramatically. "Are you okay, do you need anything? Here, let's go to the nurse."
Bokuto started to pull him down the hallway, but Akaashi was having none of it. Planting his feet firmly on the ground, he stopped in his tracks, pausing Bokuto as well.
"I'm fine. But you should get to class. You have Biology next. That's all the way across campus."
"Oh shoot I do. I'm gonna be late!" Bokuto started dashing down the hallway. Just before turning the corner, he stopped and spun around. "BYE AKAAAGAAAASSSSHIIIIIIIIIII!!!"
Akaashi turned around, a whisper of a smile on his face.
...
But then he saw the look on his stunned classmates face.
