I awake from my sleep with a painful start, my whole body sore. At first I didn’t think anything had changed but then my eyes opened and showed me the truth. At first I am extremely confused when I woke up in the middle of the unfamiliar forest but then memories flood back into my mind and I frown, looking back at where my wings would be. I get up and dust my leggings off, along with my leaf scattered shirt. I pick up my glasses and try my best to clean them with little success.
“Fall? It is spring a second-" I stop myself before letting my sorrowful memories return. My efforts were in vain as I let out a groan full of grief. I grabbed my face as tears started to fall, at first it is out of sadness, then pure anger and hatred. I let out an ear rattling screech of pain and anger. I swing an arm in the air and it hits a tree with a solid thud. I grab my arm and let out a painful groan.
“You’re so useless and stupid Zera!” Rye’s voice echoed in my mind causing more anger to explode from within me. I growl before slinging my bow over my shoulder, along with my quiver. I grab the satchel; put my knives in the perfect sheath, and start to move, not knowing where I is heading. All this walking made me think of all the events that had happened, but mostly about Rye. He only hated me because I knew of his ambitions to rule, and so did Thorn. Thorns death is oddly timed and obviously Rye’s fault, but I had no way of proving it. Also he wanted my position as next ruler. Normally the heir would be next but Thorn never showed interest in ruling, where I did so Xander trained me.
“Why not me, I would have been better off dead anyway…” I look down at my feet. That is it. He wanted me to suffer, which he had done a good job at so far. He needed me out of the way, where he could continue with his plans to rule heaven.
“Not while I’m still breathing,” I hiss under my breath, “I will find a way to beat him, some way.”
I look up at the sound of running water, not knowing how long it had been there. My pace started to speed up as I started to follow the sound of the water, hoping to find a place to call home, for now. As I find a river, I look around at the trees and other places I could find for a place to rest before nightfall. As I find no suitable place I start to follow the current of the river along the edge, just out of reach of the angry water. As I walk, I watch the sun start to set extremely slowly. A groan escapes my mouth as I suddenly see a large body of water come into view. I stop by the edge, looking over the water and see a beautiful sunset making the water turn orange, pink, and red. The scene is breathless. Once I regained my senses I noticed a small cave on the other side of the lake and river. I groan, walk around, or swim through the river!?
“I’m so the lucky one.” I muttered, remembering a conversation I had with Thorn not too long ago.
“You know what Zera?” He said to me as we lay on one of the larger hills in the area of Heaven we lived at. We lived at the main city which is named Jerusalem, after the great city.
“What?” I replied, staring at the clear and beautiful sky. A smile is spread across my face as I turned my head to face Thorn.
“You’re lucky.”
I made a disbelieving snort,
“Me, Lucky, You’re the one with a great house and family, all I have is my Mother and the little house, only just enough money.” I told him, only my smile turned to a smirk.
“You’re free.” He told me, turning his brown eyes to my blue ones.
“So are you.” I said my eyes glittered in confusion. He shook his head with a smirk on his face that I knew so well.
“No, you, Zera, are truly free. You aren’t bound to having to become something or who you get married to or anything else. You are free to choose who you want to be. Though you took my spot as ruler, he still controls the rest of my life choices.”
