My family and I have been in hiding for several weeks. A few soldiers pass by once in a while but with the Earn family we know we are safe. We all live in the basement of their house. Just my family and another family on the other side of the basement. We only get one bath a day because the Earn family can't bring much water down for us to drink and bathe with. Every once in a while my brother and I sneak to what's hiding us in the basement. A closet rack for clothes. We try to open the door but our parents always catch us. When its dinner time we usually only have soup and small talk like, "How's your day?" Or "What did you do today?"

Nothing really big happens in our lives during the holocaust. There was nothing to do but read and I easily get sick of reading. But the only nice furniture in the basement is for reading. So I make an excuse to sit there. The family on the other side of the basement has twin girls and a son. In my family there is my brother, sister and I. I see the other family once a day. Dinner. That's the only time I actually get a full meal. Snacks are the highlights of lunch and breakfast, bread or an apple. Life can be boring in this dark and dingy basement.
