And everybody believed in you

* Elliott *

I stare out the window as the car drives through the city to the restaurant. Evander is silent as well. No words have been exchanged between the two of us, but that's the way I like it. I've never been a people person.

However, the thoughts in my head were far from silent. I'm wondering how the mission is going to go. Do I really have to interact with these people? I'm used to working alone, sneaking around, and not having anyone that I have to depend on in order to complete my mission. But apparently, that's not how this one is going to go.

The car pulls up at the restaurant. "Goodbye, agent," Evander says. "Good luck."

I give him a sharp nod in return, grabbing my backpack and heading over to the door of the restaurant. A tall man with short dark hair comes up to me from where he's standing by a black SUV.

"Are you agent 89 from the Association?" he asks.

I nod. "Yes, sir."

"Follow me," he states.

I do as he tells me to, and he leads me inside of the restaurant. I've only been in a fair share of restaurants in my lifetime, but this is by far the nicest one I've been to. If anything, it's the nicest place I've been to in my life.

The security guard leads me to a table where two people are sitting. I recognize Swift and Wiles from the pictures in the file. They seem to be pretty deep in conversation when we approach.

"Miss Swift. Mr. Wiles," the security guard states, clearing his throat to get their attention.

Both of them look up at us, giving me large smiles. I almost want to laugh at the expression on Wiles' face. If only he knew why I'm really here.

Swift moves her purse off of the chair next to her, passing it to Wiles. "Here, have a seat," she tells me.

"Thank you, Miss Swift," I say politely. If there's one thing that I learned at the Association, it's how to act polite and courteous to people, even if I hate their guts.

"Call me Taylor," she tells me.

"And you can call me Adam," Wiles chimes in from the other side of the table.

"What's your name?" Taylor asks, turning her piercing blue gaze onto me. For some reason, it strikes me as funny that she doesn't know much about me. Especially when I have an entire file on her and her boyfriend.

"Agent 89, but most of the authorities refer to me as 89," I reply in a monotone.

"Do you have, like, a real name?" Adam asks. "Like, first, middle, and last?"

"Elliott Kate Carter," I say.

"Elliott," Taylor says with a smile. Her lipstick is bright red, brighter than I've ever seen anyone wear before. Although it isn't like I've seen that many people wearing lipstick.

"I like it," Adam offers.

"Thank you," I reply monotonously. It's not like I really care what he likes, but whatever. I have to be somewhat polite to him if I want to complete this mission.

Adam gestures to the menu. It's very large, with three different pages in the middle. I would figure that this type of thing would be what I should've expected, what with having to come to a restaurant to meet two celebrities. "You can order whatever you want."

Well, that's funny. No, I actually can't. One of the first things I learned during training was that I can't make my life easier while on my missions. Always order the cheapest thing if you must order, and don't eat often. You don't want to be a bother to people.
